I am getting this on my GTX 470, i couldnt find much to do with the 470 and this issue. What is the cause? Bad drivers from Nvidia?

Quite a lot of different causes of it and the problem is its not easy to pinpoint as the GPU drivers are often the first point of failure for other issues.

Check your memory and overclock is stable, that the GPU and Northbridge aren't overheating, you may also find its an issue with the creative X-Fi + more than 4gig of RAM.

Its also possible you have a faulty GPU - running the furmark stress test should help to indicate if this is an issue.

Overclocks have been rock solid for months, prime tested, the highest temps on my GPU was 91 while i was playing. I will run the furmark benchmark now.

OK, ran furmark for 10 mins no issues, ran the benchmark, ran the burn test as well, no issues. It seems to be only when i play counter strike source that i get any issues, BfBC2 seems fine, can play for ages without an issue.

NVLDDMKM.SYS Issue - I almost cry when I read this.

Sounds like the gpu's fine, i take it you ran multiple passes of the benchmark?

Rroff's sudgestion is good, you can also try running on 1stick of RAM to see if that makes any difference.

I had weeks of this error with my 8800's, in several different situations, my issue was very inconsistent.
My issues were related to my NorthBridge overvoltage, as reducing my OC seemed to resolve the issue. Cant say for sure as I tried so many different things to resolve this and same as you report, some games were fine for hours, others were not.

I had this on an 8800gtx with just Company of Heroes. There's no universal solution, but a gpu bios update solved it for me.

OK, so after stressing and benching the GPU appears fine, so i ran BC2 for ages no issues. I then played Counterstrike and it still froze. I then looked at some other peoples posts i thought about the DX level. Counterstrike has been around for a long time so i tried running the latest version of DX that CS supports which is DX level 95. It seems to have worked, found though that the game will freeze now if i tab out, the driver doesnt fail at all when the second type of freeze occurs and nothing in event manager.

Basically, the drivers that nvidia have launched appear to have a lot of bugs in, so im submitting my reports to Vavle and Nvidia in hopes they can look into it. Not sure how much response i will get though as if you run DX 95 and dont tab out, it works 100%, its annoying, but i think once the new drivers come out it will improve.

Incase you are thinking, this is usually hardware issue, in order to enforce anything lower than the latest version of DX, you need to do it at the hardware level, not software, considering i was running everything in DX 8 mode, i can understand why the nvidia drivers had a fit running CSS compared to BC2 which is DX 11.
