hey all
before anyone says "search the forum", the search was down so thought it might be quicker to start thread so that i can have a game tonight.....
im sure this has happened to loads of you but i start a map and about 10 seconds in i get a punkbuster kick, nothing else just punkbuster! in the message box.
any suggestions?

i can add a little more now, in game it says losing key packets (B)ffff0001
hope that is not talking about my cd key?

We are aware of several players who are getting kicked for Losing Key Packets with an error code ffff0001 or ffff0002 after the v1.701 PB Client update released yesterday. There seems to be some misinformation being posted on various websites and forums in reference to the new PunkBuster services called PnkBstrA and PnkBstrB. These are NOT optional. If these are disabled or stopped or blocked by the user or anti-virus or Internet security software, updated PunkBuster servers will remove you from the game for Losing Key Packets. Users of some versions of McAfee Security Center are reporting that these PB components are getting automatically added to the "block" list. If this happens on your machine, you will need to remove them from the list in order to continue using PunkBuster. Players who have manually disabled or stopped PnkBstrA based on instructions from some other website may need to run our PBSVC program to uninstall and reinstall in order to continue playing on PB enabled servers.

thanks slogan and thundycat for the quick response, i got mildly excited for a while but it is still doing it. i dont want to have to reinstall because i did that only last weekend!
 
what are both the files in your services set to are they set to automatic,manual or disabled.

The 2 services I am refering too are
PnkBstrA
PnkBstrB

Make sure they are set to manual and are NOT disabled.

If one or the other are not under your services download and run the PBSVC program uninstall the services then reinstall them.
Update PB using PBSETUP

And try joining a server again.

Also make sure the 2 services are not blocked by your firewall(This bit is really important)

Let me know how you get on.

Had the same issue myself after 1.25. Solved it by manually installing PB via the installer on the evenbalance website.

Also, make sure you are running in Administrator mode if you're running Vista.

ok after a lot of uninstalling reinstalling i now only have PnkBstrA , dont know where B has gone, it was there last night. anything to do with pb and 2142 is set to allow but i am still getting it.
i am 100% certain that i am not noobing this problem its just another in a long line of ea disasters.
but thanks for helping again

Ok well that is the problem u need B installed too.So run the PBSVC exe and unistall the services then run it again and see if it installs both services again then update.

uninstalled and reinstalled everything for like the 20th time and yes! it works...

Hey guys, I'm having a similar problem with the BF 2142 demo.



I've tried updating it and it says it updated, but it's still doing the same thing. :(
 
well, if in doubt.... reinstall and reinstall again!
its nice to hear that someone else has these kind of problems, well its not nice but you know what i mean?

That error is because you're running a version of punkbuster that's newer than what the server is running. It is the server administrator's fault for this, you haven't done anything wrong. On Q3/ET etc you can get around this by using /pb_security 0, which allows the server to downgrade your punkbuster version, however this is not really something you'd want to do if you can avoid it (not to mention the older version will not prevent newer cheats). Find a better server to play on.
 
theres only 1 server i get the pb problem on and its either the 50k static or the other 50k one, all others are ok

Nice one, cheers mate. Was trying to play on the MPUK demo servers, works fine on the others.
