A little wedding pre-shoot

Had an opportunity to do a wedding pre-shoot today; despite being the assistant, the main tog was happy for me to lead as I do like to experiment a little more than the usual hug and shoot.

And yes, I know, Ariana looks like Myleene Klass. Lucky Richard.

There was a lesson learnt today though, NEVER try balloons when in open ground... no matter how romantic you envisioned it before shoot, you will get shots like this:

Some nice shots but some need serious colour balance correcting. Unless it is the style of look you are after (which I doubt as some look fine), the photos are really yellow. Mainly the ones with the grass and brick wall.

P.s. they call these "engagement session"

Those before the Green were taken and made 'oldie', portraiture was shoot with a little better colour correction. I will however want to adjust the green a little on some of them...

As for Richard being rather tense, it was his first time getting shot. His wife to be is a natural. And cheers Ray, 'Engagement Sessions'... I learn something everyday.

"oldie"?

As it like old photograph? It just look unnaturally yellow/brown hue to me.

P.s. the holding hands shot, swap places and so her left hand with the ring is in the shot. That helps to reinforce the message of what this shoot is about.

I'm glad you said that after hours of recalibrating my monitor after a format that's how they look to me as well

The guy does look uneasy with the whole thing, but I'm sure once he sees your work he will be a lot more comfortable on the day.

Of course you could clone out the bridge/pylon in the first one, it irritates me being there

I'm not a very good photographer, so rather than critique'ing your work decided just to make some observation comments.

Don't think you can do much as a photographer when the people you are photographing aren't models. Bit difficult to turn them into models with just a few choice words.

Your a photographer after all, not a god

It's perfectly possible, although it's an art form in itself, and it's not a one size fit's all thing...

Personally I think the Op did well getting them animated, although it might of been a little to much for Richard. I find that people who don't like being in front of a camera generally prefer direction, as they usually feel like they don't know what to do with them selves, hence they look awkward.

Well, after calibrating my screen and checking the exported JPEGs, I can see where to greenish hue and all are coming from. I was working on the 'Oldie' look initially and here's a more 'uniformed' look, hopefully, across the range.

*Note to self, always double check the camera calibration settings!*

Out of interest what WB settings were you using? Look good though, only thing I will say is they seem to be looking down to the camera a bit to much, which isn't very flattering for portraits (chins and shadows).

Have to be honest, I'm not sure I like your processing style at all.

I appreciate you say you are going for an "old photo" look but if that's the case, I do not think you have achieved it.

The colour in the photos looks un-natural, the vibrance/saturation is too high I feel.

I think you could take another shot at processing and see what you come up with.

Just offering an opinion remember, whether you listen to it or not is up to you!

It's all part of my learning process... PP has always been my weakest point, thus put it up in an open forum. Taking in valid points and hopefully learning from my mistakes.

You just got to keep experimenting and keep playing until the look is what you have in mind. Anything else is just work in progress.
