Hi,

Just bought a WRT54GL to add some QoS options to an ADSL internet connection shared over a network. I also have a Netgear DG834v2 which I have been using for a modem/router.

I know I need to use the DG834 as a modem and pass through to the linksys box. I am just wondering if it is best to turn off the port forwarding, DHCP, firewall etc features of the Netgear and run everything through the linksys box making the netgear a 'dummy' modem.

Also will if I am plugged into the linksys router will I easily be able to access the Netgear web GUI (192.168.0.1) and the linksys one (192.168.1.1)?

Help appreciated.

Cheers,

To answer my own question and possibly help someone else out:

You can use the DG834 in 'bridge' mode just using the modem only, although it is not officially supported, and can only be selected by going to this url: http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?next_file=mode.htm

The WRT54GL then needs to be configured to use PPPoE (with adsl username and pass) so you can plug a cable from the DG834 into the WAN/Internet port of the linksys.

Then you can use all the DHCP, QoS, filtering and firewall options through the WRT54GL with the netgear acting just as a 'dummy' modem.
