hey me and my room mates are thinking about getting a weightlifting bench and some weights for our room. We have access to a gym but its always packed, we end up waiting more than we actually get on the equipment!

Were looking for something around £150ish where we can do multiple exercises on, mainly chest/shoulders as we can use dumbells for bi's/tri's etc.

i was thinking of something along the lines of
this

will do, btw the only reason they are front argos is because i was just giving you examples of what we might get. not saying we will get one from there

How about:

Depends what weight you're lifting tbh. If you're light ppl and are only benching a small amount then a cheaper one will be just fine. But personally I cannot use a lot of York benches anymore as bench press and bodyweight totalled together tops 200KG which is the 'limit' on a lot of the benches and personally I don't want to be the one to break the bench whilst I'm benching heavy.

Don't like the look of any of the argos ones, if I had to pick I'd say the 3rd one. First and last ones are terrible.
Agree. The first looks like it was made out of Mechano, the weights with the second wouldn't last more than a month and the fourth looks like a smith machine meaning your ROM and development would be limited. Of the four the third looks like it's the best option. Having said that, I wouldn't expect much if you bought any weightlifting equipment from Argos.

If you live near one of the power-house branches pop in and give a few benches a try as they have most of them set up on display.

not a fan of squatting with things like that. much prefer a proper squat rack or a power rack.

I agree. I'd buy a bench simply for benching and similar movements. I'd buy a rack for squatting.

would it not just depend on how much you were squatting .i was looking at this but prob about 100kgs would be now

The thing is though, there is no safety catch, unlike a proper power rack that will save you if happen to fail on a rep.
