I work for a large multi national.

A few weeks ago I asked a colleague who moved out to Australia what the job market was like in New Zealand. I didn't hear from him for weeks but suddenly today there was a flurry of activity. Reading the email chain it seems there is a position and two people I used to work with are already on the list saaying i'd be perfect for it.

Never been to NZ but everyone says it's amazing. I'm getting sick of the UK and everyone always jumps into say 'if you don't like it then leave'. So I am...I think. I'm young, unattached and love travelling. I know it's a complete life change........

Would you take a job In Auckland or Wellington given the chance?

someone I know moved out there to work about 2 years ago, while living costs were low wages were lower too, he is now bored and looking to come back

Yep, I would do it for the experience of living there for 2 years, but I'm fairly sure I'd want to come back.

I'm looking for a job in Paris for the same reasons at the moment.

I would if I was unattached, but I get plenty of travel with work anyway so im happy :)

I am off to NZ in december for 5 weeks holiday. However it isn't just a holiday, we are doing a bit of a recce to see if we could live there. I love the UK to bits but it is too crowded these days and too expensive to buy some much needed space so maybe it is time to look for alternatives.

Life is about experiencing as much as you can. The opportunity to live in the southern hemisphere is one you should not easily dismiss. If you have nothing holding you back here, in terms of commitments, I would definitely take the plunge. If it doesn't work out, and you have to move back to the U.K in 6 months to a year, at least you've experienced it. Nothing is worse than sticking to "the norm" out of sheer comfort.

Would there always be the job availability for you to come back if you really did hate it? Or another job that you could easily get back over here?

I could always come back to the UK.

...but even if I hated it in New Zealand I wouldn't leave for a few years. Need to put the time in, not fair to take a job and leave it after a few months. Would kill my career.

Without question - Yes*

* providing there wasn't any commitment to stay such as family etc.

As I get older, the past few years have brought to home that life is too short. Even yesterday I read this ( http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_west/7020754.stm ) which is a girl I worked with a few years ago.

So yeah, go for it, you don't know what's round the corner.

Friend of mine did it, him and his other half upped and left. Got themselves a nice pad in a posh part of Auckland by the harbour. Great night life, and stuff is cheap by comparision to the UK - depends on what payroll you're going on though I guess.

My bud took the opportunity to capitalise on his free trip over there and did pretty much everything he could, he's a boarder and Mt Ruapheu (active volcano that just popped) is within driving distance. Not to mention Auckland is a great staging point for exploring the South Island and Gold Coast - not to mention Fiji. One thing to be aware of is that flights from NZ can be pricey.

All in all though, even if it means taking a wee pay cut I'd jump on it. There's no language barrier, things "make sense" (if that makes sense!) over there, people are hospitable, and there's stacks to do.

Go caving in Waitomo, it's called the "glow worm experience". Good laugh to be had. (we visited said friend, was rude not to really - had somewhere to stay!)
