Hi. I will be getting my PowerColor x1800xt 512mb in a few days, and I was wondering how well it works to flash it with the sapphire PE bios I found on techpowerup.com? I'm going to use the stock cooling, if that's efficient enough? I could install a vf700-cu if it's better? Or maybe just apply som AC5 if it helps at all?

And last, but not least, do I run a great risk of destroying my card? Can I recover the card if something goes wrong during the flash? By using an pci-card for example?

Cheers for all replies :)

been running mine with the pe bios now for 4-5 weeks, was using the stock cooler and it was fine with that but ive just got a maze 4 gpu block now so im all nice and cool. 30idle and 38load to be precise.

must say, make sure you bacup your old bios before you flash, by pressing the save button.

make sure you downclock the card to 500core 500mem before the flash to stop any complications.( use atitool or overclocker )

and make sure you tick the force box to force flash the new bios.

hope this helps.

ps im now getting 10,056 in 3d05 so its well worth doing.im also not held responsible if anything goes wrong.

cheers

Sorry to drag this topic back up but ive just bought a 2nd Hand Powercolor X1800XT 512MB flashed to a PE and i thought i could get my Qs answered in here instead of creating another thread.

Someone warned me after i bought it that it could die due to the heat! AHH.

Its on stock cooling at the moment but i was going to change the cooler on it straight away for a Maze4 Waterblock, and some ramsinks (eg. Zalman or Vantec ones) Will this be sufficient enough to cool it?

If not, how simple will it be to go back to the old bios?

Also, what are the differences between a standard XT and a PE, speed wise?

Sorry for the amount of questions, it would be great if someone could give me any help at all.
