I had need to dismantle my PS3 the other day. After cleaning all the items requiring cooling using TIM I applied AS5 and rebuilt. Within 10 mins the fan is on full. Did it all again, same result. Swapped AS5 for standard compound, no change. I have done it 5 times now and nothing changes. The airstream is cold so it is not actually hot as far as I can see. I have done a full recovery from the recovery menu, format etc etc. Everything plays fine it's just flipping loud. Anyone experienced this?

Cheers

No. Although I am curious about the 1st sentence in your post.

You broke it.

Thanks vincent1989, real helpful. The reason I took my PS3 apart is I am currently working on the installation of wireless headphones for LAN party use etc.

perhaps google the problem and see if anyone has experienced the same? Much more useful advice than quoting 'shouldnt have opened it' and 'you broke it' umpteen times!

buy a 360

and i'm gone!

I went from a nice quiet PS3 to a 360, and to say the sheer loudness of the 360 is like comparing a vacuum cleaner to a hovercraft is an understatement. I mean - how the hell did they make something that small so damn loud?!?

I'm almost tempted to buy some closed back headphones to properly shut out the noise it makes.

/edit:

I take it back. After just discovering I can install games to the HDD, it's about the same as a PS3.

I think you have messed up the heat sensor! Now your heat sensor is open circuit, so the PS3 brain thinks the cpu is overheating, so puts the fans on max to compensate.

Yup I think the temp sensor is the problem. No matter now as I have sold it for £160, no controllers or leads. New one on the way..
