I'm either going insane or I've got some pretty funky virus/malware.

I seem to have a very small bug, about 1mm long, running around on my screen, though he keeps running off the edges and coming back on.

How the hell do I get rid of him?

Thatll be a thunderfly, theyre a pretty common problem on lcd's, with a bit of luck hell soon die and fall to the bottom of the screen.

Don't think you can, I remember in the past there being threads regards people having bugs in there screens. I don't think there is a lot you can do, only hope he dies off screen and don't press the screen just in case you squash him.

Hopefully someone might have an idea :(

Turn the light off in your room ,then shine a torch into the vent on the back to attract him out.

Worked for me ..........once;)

TC

EDIT:As RJC mentioned do not press the screen or he will be stuck forever.

Great tip!

Glad i stumbled across this - i've been asked how to resolve this a few times and have just advised them not to touch screen etc. It's obvioulsy not guaranteed to work every time but it makes theoretical sense...

I have a 24" Dell TFT monitor as well and after an hour or so, it too is like a furnace :D

The top of the monitor gets quite hot but no problems with it so far and it comes with a 3 year on site guarantee so I've no worries!

Just googled 'Thunderfly' because i had no idea what they are, and it appears they like Dell monitors as the complaints are from people who have Dell monitors, so my work monitor is probably going to be screwed soon.

Ha ha!!

I had the exact issue with my xps 1530 last year!!

Try explaining it to the call center which is in india.
Convo went something like this

Me "hi there, yes i appear to have a bug in my screen"
SD "ok what is the bug sir?"
ME "erm a little creature"
SD "oooook. whats it doing?"
ME "Nothing, its slap bang in the middle of the screen"
SD "ooooook"

Realising i was getting no where!!

ME "Ahh actually its a block of dead pixels. 4x3"
SD "ahh oooook. i will book an engineer to replace the screen for you"

Next day the engineer turns up, "that looks like a bug to me mate" Me, "Sure does, can you swap it out?" Sorted ha ha!!

Was funny at the time anyways :)

Tbh, with the amount of vents at the back of Dell monitors, i can't say i am suprised.

This is a problem at my work, about 50% of the laptops here have at least 1 corn fly (thunder fly) and about 20% of LCD screens have them as well.

Even on our dell servers the little info screens have some in it.....

such a pain. Thanks god mine are free of them ;)

Been to Mumbai and Delhi, Indian bugs are much bigger and more likely to eat the user than **** about in the screen :D lol

my misses has got one too now, it been crawling about for a day and ended up dead in the exact centre of the screen.

Looks like the biggest thunder fly ever !!!

Tried tapping around the area but just will not shift !!
