which graphic card....

thanks for your post m8, but will any gfx card be bottlenecked by my cpu atm? as in whats the highest i could go up to and get away with

also i have a Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU

may upgrade the case if i can get away with it or mod this one :p "bye bye hdd racks"

is not overclocked atm but was maybe thinking about it if its worth doing rather than buying a new one "saves a bit of money so i can buy a better card"

thanks for you help m8

9800GTX+ is not a good purchase.

If your budget is £100~ then get a 4850, if if ~£200 a 4870 1GB, if £300~ a 4870x2.

;)

(ATI wins this round of graphics card)

9800GTX+

cheap, yet effective i can run Crysys at high with 4 x AA 40fps +

@ 1024x768....

(seriously though saying you can run someting at x settings with y filters without stating the resolution is useless).

Op - Check out quite a few reviews before making your purchase and get a card that will offer you the best performance in the games you play.

It also may pay to wait a little bit as both ATI and Nvidia have released new drivers to conincide with the release of the big hitting games (fallout 3 / Farcry2 etc) and as of yet we havn't really seen what they can do outside of farcry 2.

A good review site to start off with would be Bit-tech.net, I say this simply because they show not only the average framerates but aso the minimum (most important) framerates as well. (A high average framerate is good however it could be produced by the card dipping and dving between very high maximum framerates and very low minimum framerates - this will give you the perception of jerkyness when playing the game)

As a quick card choice in your situation I would look at either the HD4870 or GTX260 (assuming you game at or around 1680x1050). Both cards will offer more than ample performance in all of the current games (neither one is outright faster than the other but they tend to trade blows - again waiting for proper reviews with the new drivers will help to clear the water a bit). Choose the one that offers not only the best performance but also the best features for you.

Personally I went for a GTX260 not only for its great performance but also because of Cuda.

It doesn`t mention on the description whether or not you have 6-pin PCIE plugs from this PSU? A 4870 requires 2 (1 for the 4850). But it does have triple 12v rails so should be OK with a molex to 6 pin adaptor (let`s hope your new purchase comes with one, or two if required).

Man, that board is itchin` to overclock that CPU. Just nudging the FSB up (RTM, very clear instructions) on a stock cooler you will easily get to 3Ghz. :)

With a HD4850 and a 3ghz E8400 24 man AOC raids were silky smooth (1920*1200)

Edit: Overclock the E6600 to 3Ghz or more (very easy) and the PSU has all the cables needed for both 4780 and 260 (and more than enough power)

altho i will mod this with a washer/penny as it can be twisted a bit - atm temp is - 40c idle

i do have both 6 pin connectors for the psu i made sure i kept the other one safe.

(RTM, very clear instructions)?? sry what does this mean?

i do wanna go for the gtx260 and overclock the cpu so no bottleneck but also i found this info...

The Corsair will be fine, 40A on the 12V rail.

The BFG you quote is the 192 shader card which has 6 of the 8 ROPs in a GTX280 enabled.

You should get the GTX260 216 shader card with 7 of the 8 ROPs enabled.

eg.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...8-BG&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=927&name=BFG GeForce GTX 260 OC MAXCORE 896MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

or

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...PV&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=927&name=Point of View GeForce GTX 260 "Maxcore" 896MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

if you feel flush then spring for one of the higher factory clocked 216 cards though either of the two cards above should clock higher as the coolers are the same on all.

Otherwise, the 4870 1GB is a good card, depends what games you play most.

Strange my brother has an E6600 @ stock :( and an 8800GT also at stock and he gets pretty decent performace in age of conan with max settings - admittedly he only plays at 1280x1024 but he gets way more than 10fps when raiding.

As you have an SLI board... and assuming AOC supports SLI then simply sticking a second 8800GT in there would be a cheap way to get a performance boost and would be faster than a 4870 or 280GTX.

sorry i should have said 10fps while fighting with 24ppl on the screen all ganking a mob and im @ 1440 x 900

thanks for that gfx card guide m8 its a very good read!!!

also to rroff i didnt think that 2x 8800gt's in sli would out perform a 280gtx ???
i see in your sig u have a system which is 8800gt sli and a 260gtx maxcore and your saying that 2 8800gt's outperform that???
