2 batteries is not needed if you buy that Makita Nightglow suggested, charge is so quick.

The 20 minutes it takes to charge, I usually go & put kettle on,as Macca said one battery is ample, last so long, & it holds it's charge for months.
Due to appendix, didn't use drill for over 5 months, but it was still fully charged when I came to use it.

I have that DeWalt DC785, it's an excellent drill. Powerful, balanced, light, for me it's hugely comfortable to use. The Makita BHP453 is excellent too, I found it hard to choose between them.

Both DeWalt and Makita charge in around 20 minutes and are 1.3Ah.

There's not really much to choose between them. Makita reputedly have more battery failure issues but that's going on hearsay rather than hard facts. You won't be disappointed with either, believe me!

Both are decent drills, but the DeWalt has a faster driving and drilling speed.

Makita - 0-400rpm - 0-1300rpm
DeWalt - 0-600rpm - 0- 2000rpm

For your usage it probably wont matter, but if you were to use it for a big project that you need to drill lots of holes or put lots of screws down then the faster speeds will certainly make a difference.

Also like how compact it is, would be a great drill for kitchen fitting.

Found these good in the past

And if you have a relative over 60, they can get a free Gold Card, gives them 10% discount on Wednesday.

So, you can make it cheaper still, if they buy it.

I used to have the BHP453SH but it wasn't really powerful enough to put a 22mm auger into a hardwood door. The proof being the smoke that poured out of the casing when fitting a mortice lock into an oak door one day!

I now have the BHP451Z, it can do some pretty hardcore tasks considering it's cordless and only 18v

It's far quicker and safer using an auger in my experience, along with a powerful drill. I'd rather not run the risk of running out the side of the door, I've seen that happen quite a few times and to actual chippies on occasions! :D

*edit, I suppose I should mention that I am a full time tradesman, I own a small construction firm along with my brother. I certainly give tools a good workout, usually carpentry related gear seeing as that is what I am qualified in & owning about £4-5k worth of stuff, but I do muck in with the general building work more now - I have to really!
