I let my Costco membership lapse a few years ago, but found my card and wondered if it was worth re-opening.
Reason I let it lapse last time was that I didn't really see any benefit of bulk buying at the time, and it was enough of a journey that I couldnt be bothered for the little I got out of it.
My kids are a bit older now, and we get through food/consumables faster now so thinking about giving it another go.
Nearest one to me is Reading, so would appreciate thoughts on the following:

1) Reading - facilities, improvements over last 2 years.
2) Best buys - what is really worth buying in bulk/what can Costco offer that Tesco/Sainsburys etc can't
3) Personal experiences - good/bad stories please

Cheers

In all honesty, for us it wasnt really worth it, some of the stuff is cheaper and you can buy in large bulk but It ended up being more hassle to travel there, the only way you can tell is to sign back up again I think it depends on your family's spending habits!

I only buy some things in bulk like dishwasher tablets, washing powder, bottled water, olive oil, toilet paper etc. They do sell nice meat but it's a little on the expensive side. It also helps that it's located 10 minutes away so isn't inconvenient.

Costco is amazing! True sometimes not everything is cheapest c.f. supermarkets, but the own brand things and food are superb. Also, go at lunchtimes and you can get free lunch by eating all the tasters they hand out. Defo worth it. My favourites this year have been the abderdeen angus burgers, raw king prawns and the old favourite 24pack of fresh cookies, mmmmmmm......

Me and gf have a costco membership, she loves the place and bulk buys washing powder, dog and cat food, toilet paper, juice etc.....

the meat is also nice, but isn't cheap, recently got a huge leg of boneless lamb, large salmon and they do really large pizza and cakes for birthday parties...

I picked up a couple of boxes of mars bars and snickers but you find yourself just eating more of them as you have more...

Did take advantage of the buy three car tires and get one free, and that worked out cheaper for me..

And as I live in Milton Keynes its just down the road for me..... They do membership offers, and they can be worth it...

Oh recently got a rather cheap PS3 there as well... lol

I heard that electronic items bought from Costco come with a lifetime warranty so long as your membership remains active. Is that true?

Aye thats for trade membership buddy.

I have a personal membership. Its really worthwhile for some stuff, as it is only 10min drive from my house its hardly out of the way.

The main thing really is to just watch some prices. Items like alcohol and meat can sometimes be more expensive than a supermarket.

Deffo worth the membership cost in my opinion

The only thing i ever use it for now is the optician as contacts are a fair bit cheaper. Oh and the occasional giant chocolate cake!

Probably wont renew when the time comes though tbh.

Does anyone here have a membership at Bookers - does it cost anything?

My mate in Germany wants me to pick up a box of monster munch crisps as he can't get them over there - and Bookers is the only place walking distance from the office

It's alright, i wouldn't touch the meat with a barge pole though, looks well *****, even worse than tesco value stuff.
Good for buying cleaning stuff, bog roll, drinks, biscuits etc. though

Oh yes! the costco cakes/pastries are worth the membership alone :) can't believe I forgot about them.

The meat is actually really tasty and decent quality, but it is more expensive than supermaket stuff so it should be.
