Prime blend fail qwery, q9550+p5q dlx.

Im currently trying to get my q9550 stable,@3.6ghz already done 8 hours on small fft, spec in sig, tried running prime blend, packed in after 3 hours on the following settings.

8x425 fsb
vcore, 1.21250
nb. 1.14
vtt, 1.14
vdimm, 2.02
fsb-nb strap, 333mhz

Need a bit of advice about going higher and passing blend. Thanks in advance.

Your NB & VTT voltages are both really low and from what I understand, these are fairly important when clocking a quad. Bump them both up to 1.25v and give blend another go, if it then passes you can always try it again after with slightly less juice.

Yep that was what i was thinking off, been trying to get stable on the lowest possible voltages to try and keep the temps down a bit, will give it a go on higher settings.:)
 
Are you running 4x1gb sticks, or 2x2gb? If its 4 sticks, you'll want to try 1.3v or more on the NB. You're safe to go to 1.4v on air cooling, but really you shouldnt need to pass about 1.34v even with 4 sticks. If you only have two, you shouldnt need to pass 1.3v.

Not sure about fsb term (vtt). I have left mine on auto without any problems getting to 3.8ghz. The other setting that is usually adjusted is PPL voltage, but again, i have left mine on auto without any issues. (asus p5q pro)

I'd try that, and if not, just give it another notch of cpu voltage. The vcore is really quite low for 3.6ghz. Mine requires about 1.2750v to get to 3.6ghz iirc.
 
Im running 2x2gb mate, i never leave any of the volages on auto on this board as supposedly they overvolt severely high on auto or lowest manual setting, regarding the vcore, i used the above setting to achieve 8 hours small fft stability, chip is an EO stepping, vid of 1.200. Also have pll set to 1.54.
 
Update, ive switched cpu margin enhancement from optimized to performance after reading a few articles about this setting and q9*** cpu's, blend has been running a while now without error, havent upped vtt and nb from 1.26 yet, hopefully it runs for a while without error.
 
Ah thanks for saying, as i'm still trying to hit 4ghz. :)

I've also just lapped my CPU settler. I know you were debating whether or not to do it to yours. Temps are 3-4 degrees lower at idle, and the same under load.

This is enough of a drop to push the voltage up quite a few notches :)
 
Nice one ozzie:) what grade of grit did you go up to? Still toying with the idea of doing mine, current temps running blend (over 3 hrs now without error):D are 50-48-43-44, may also put my 2000 rpm fans back onto the TRUE as the current models are only 1200's, need all the cooling i can get during this weather.
 
Used 400,600,800,1200 and 1500 grades.

What was rather strange was that only the edges on the corners showed visable change. The majority of the CPU was almost untouched for colour, but you could see how flat it became afterwards. When i did my Q6600, pretty much all of the cpu changed to copper, but this wasnt anywhere near as uneven as that. I was slightly worried that i hadnt applied enough pressure for it to work, but it's worked perfectly.

I'm using a Titan Fenrir that i've modded for push/pull (1200rpm noctua, 1400rpm titan fan) and my idle temps at stock speeds are 29-30-31-30, and load temps at 45,43,46,45 using IBT, so i've got masses of headroom left.

I've never had to RMA a CPU, so the lack of warrenty is nothing im bothered about :)
 
Same grades i used myself, though i had some 2000 that i gave it a quick buff with (mainly for bling) what stepping is your chip and what voltage are you needing for your clockspeed, if you dont mind me asking, those idle and load temps are very good, nice and even and low considering that your testing with IBT, which generates a bit more heat than p95.
 
E0 stepping bought a few weeks back. VID is 1.250v, but i'm running it at 1.1250v in the BIOS without any issues, which is the lowest voltage it'll run at stock. I've got all my voltages/speed settings on a piece of paper i'll have to have a look around for. :)
 
1.2 vid here, running 1.21250 in bios, 1.200 @load, 1.192 idle for 3.6ghz, may see if i can run 3.6ghz on stock volts, other voltages are.

pll, 1.54
vtt, 1.26
nb, 1.26
vdimm, 2.02

Changing the cpu margin enhacement from optimized to performance seems to have cured my freezing issues so far, been testing for 5 hours now but i may stop it soon as its getting late.
 
Stopped it after 5hours, no errors, so at least its progress:D

Next step will be an attempt at 3.8ghz on the cpu.
