Help!! My new £1500 Overclockers rig is currently useless for gaming - would be better off on a £600 PC World special!

The latest problem (aside from arriving with a few other issues) is that games keep minimising every 2 mins or so. I thought at first it was just battlefield 3 but it's also happening with BF2, and others I have installed. I have read in other forums that this might be an issue with the Nvidia 580 but no one seems to know what the fix is...

I have the latest drivers installed, the rig is new having only just arrived from Overclockers so I doubt its a hardware failure issue... anyone got any ideas before I throw it through the window??

Minimising? Does it say your display driver crashed and recovered?

If it's just minimising then I've had that happen ages ago with XP. Turned out I had a virus that was doing it.

Lol, way to mountian and molehill dude!

You're not pressing the windows key by mistake are you? :p

Nope, its not a virus, all checked out ok.

Not pressing the windows key either lol

It doesn't crash the game or windows and there are no error messages. The fullscreen game just goes to a minimised window every 2 minutes and I lose control of the game until I click on it with the mouse at which point it goes back to full screen again for another 2 minutes - regular as clockwork.

The rig is great, the speed and graphics ability are amazing but games, especially FPS games are unplayable when you lose control of a heli / jet or just simply stand still in the middle of a battlefield every 2 minutes!!!

Its not happening with any other program, just the games.

I wasn't making a mountain out of a molehill, just think that a pc of that price and spec should be able to play games fluidly, especially when its called The Battlefield War General lol.

no problems like that with my 580. sounds like software. have you tried a clean driver install?

Have you tried disabling desktop desktop composition (find game .exe, right click - properties - compatability).. fairly sure it's not going to be the card.

Also, have you fully updated windows yet? Worth a shot.. lol.

Thanks - you just solved the problem!! Set compatibility for Win 7 and disabled desktop composition - no more minimised games!!! Excellent, nice one mate! Thanks to everyone else as well who helped out, nice to see a decent forum here where people are ready to help others out... can't say I'll be contributing that much as I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to pc problems but I am grateful. :D

No problem with my 580 either. When you say minimising, are you playing in windowed mode then minimising, or ctrl+esc to minimise ?

This may help http://lmgtfy.com/?q=games+keep+minimising

Tool answer...

Excellent answer. I have forgotten how to do that and I my recent build was doing the same

You still have an issue somewhere though, been through three different PCs running aero and none of them do that.

Not really. Windows Aero sucks! I hope I don't have a problem but I doubt it

Fixed

I'd try another keyboard, not really sure what else would minimise games unless there is some of type of software running in the background doing it.
