Got back from work this morning to find my Discovery outside the train station on its side with a police cordon sealing off the road. Turns out a van smashed into and sent it about 30ft up the road until it rolled onto its side. The van driver was taken to hospital, apparently he wasn't wearing a seat belt and judging by the damage and how far the Discovery had launched he must have been going seriously quick and is bloody lucky he hit the passenger side of his van!

Now the fun begins with the insurance companies, mine has a call centre in India and it's like talking to a brick wall to get advice on how to sort the claim out since I'm only third party insured. Called the other guys insurance but they can't do anything because he obviously hasn't reported it yet so call my company again on their legal number and they were like

So do I just wait for the guy to report it once he's been fixed up?

Well I finally got the Discovery back from the insurers after a needlessly long winded case, the police gave me the wrong registration of the Sprinter that hit the Discovery (they were one digit out). However the reg they gave me also related to another Sprinter so I chasing the owner of this one and their insurance company who actually picked up my car from the recovery company and got an engineer to write it off, this took about a month to sort out. The police then got in touch and told me I had the wrong man and gave me the correct details, I'd had enough of sorting everything out by this stage so I just got the solicitors to deal with it, 3 months later and I've finally got paid out along with a nice sum for loss of earnings from all the time that was wasted.

Anyways here are the pics of the damage:

It's good that it was parked up with nobody in it. Shame the police messed up, but at least they did correct their mistake rather than let you carry on chasing the wrong person.

:O Looks like something erupted inside your car, good thing you weren't inside it when the accident occured!

Quite shocking it took this long to resolve, hopefully you've been reimbursed accordingly.

The police were going to charge him with driving without due care and attention but surprise surprise they didn't go through with it in the end, the speed limit of the road was 30mph so you do have to wonder how fast he was going.

You need to claybar the bonnet, badly. Otherwise, nice car :)

That's quite dead  Glad you got a payout in the end!

How they roll off the Euro NCAP. ;) :p

Thats the problem with the old all aluminum construction the roofs werent very strong, the new ones have roll bars hidden in the body work, so they could sell them in america, atleast thats what they did with the defender.
