I just spotted that OcUK have recently got these in stock.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Keyboards_2.html

I'm surprised that a thread hasn't been started already as it looks the part, has a standard keyboard layout and has plenty of connections (usb x2 & audio). Although it's pricey (£58.69) it does look good with the brushed aluminium finish but it may be a finger magnet hence the supplied polish towel :p

Its a pity its not wireless and i assume the keys aren't aluminium!? It would be interesting to see what the keystroke is like (for gaming, etc) and if the surface became cold to the touch in a colder environment. Also, can anyone tell if the keyboard is entirely black - is the light catching the edge of the frame (diamond cut) making it look white? (check their website for more pics)

Admittedly, it is tempting as it would go well with my black Lian-Li case and black Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1 Speakers. Its maybe hard to justify the price for this keyboard but it would be interesting to hear other peoples views on this keyboard and if anyone has any photos.

Cheers

Thanks for the link messiah khan, its good to see the keyboard in more detail. The gallery reaffirms that this keyboard is abit of a looker, the diamond-cut edges is a really nice touch - shows quality.

Even from those 'promotional' images you can see that it might be a nightmare to keep clean, but hey thats what the towel is for obviously :D

The keys look as if they are 'laptop' style which makes me assume that keystroke would be good and use 'Leading Responsive Scissors Technology', whatever that means!

Looks very nice. I picked up my Coolermaster Alloy keyboard for only £20 though, so the enermax does seem a bit expensive.

I was also tempted by the Hiper aluminium keyboard but i was put off by its non-standard layout, which looked awkward with all the keys being so close together - making it difficult for gaming, etc.

The Enermax Crystal keyboard looks good also but i prefer the aurora because of its black finish. The crystal looks as though it might blind you if the sun or light caught the surface - its a bit too well polished for me :p

Looks a quality KB, would indeed go nicley with the Black Lian-li - it's just a shame it's so steep on the pricing. You'd think at that price it would be wireless/bluetooth.

Well, i've gone ahead and bought one.

I must admit that its a really good keyboard (functionally) but it doesn't half look the part.

The keystroke is like a laptop but better and the quality of finish is fantastic.

I think i'll have this keyboard for a long time as i've never had a better one (my old keyboard was an Apple usb). I haven't tried playing games with it yet but i'd imagine that'll be good. Also, anyone who uses their keyboard more for typing, i would seriously consider this keyboard.

Hopefully the pics below will tell you more about the keyboard than i can write.

(p.s - the 2nd pic shows the scale of the keyboard in relation to an Icemat - Black 2nd Edition)

That does look very nce!

Are the keys and all made of aluminum or is it just the body? I notice in the pictures there is a color difference between the tow but that might be just explained by the fact that they have different textures.

Also, I take it this uses silly rubber springs rather than proper keyswitches, is this the case?

It uses proper scissor springs AFAIK.

No, the keys aren't made from aluminium but from plastic - very similar to laptop keys.
The entire front fascia/shell is made from one sheet of aluminium with diamond cut edges (nice touch).

I'm unsure about what a proper keyswitch is so this is a picture of it from the manufacturers website:

Ah, those are just like the keys found in most laptops, in both construction and function. I was hoping that they were more like the mechanical keyswitches famously found in the IBM Model M. Oh well, I didn't really expect for it to be constructed that way, I was just hopeful. :)

Just thought I'd add that I received one of these today and being a programmer I was worried about how effective it would be as a "typists keyboard" but I have to say I'm very impressed.

Although the keys look like laptop keys there is a pleasant resistance to them and typing on them is both easy and pleasurable. It took only a minute or so using it before I was back up to my regular typing speed, and in many ways I feel like Im typing faster due to the reduced travel on the keys, etc.

It is expensive as far as keyboards go but it does look and feel like it's worth the money (if that makes sense).

My only real complaint - which I found out about after purchasing - is that the USB ports on the side of the keyboard are only USB1.1 spec, not 2.0 - so plugging a USB stick or whatever into it will mean it runs at reduced speeds. Not the end of the World as far as my situation is concerned as I have an overabundance of spare USB ports on my PC, but it's still an annoyance on a £50 keyboard.

It would also be nice if it had just the basic multimedia (play, pause, stop, next/prev track) keys on it, but to be honest not having them is not a show-stopper for me - and in many ways I actually prefer having a keyboard which is an out-and-out, no expense spared "focused" keyboard rather than the crazy FPS style keyboards you get nowadays.

Definitely worth the money in my opinion and will compliment my black Lian-Li nicely :)

I've been tempted by this keyboard for some time. But two things put me off: Firstly it is only USB 1.1 (just don't understand the reason for that). Secondly the price. I have two children and the keyboard would get scratched easily so a bit of a waste of that much money.

Instead I have, for some time, been using Logitech Ultra X keyboards (love them so much I bought some for my machines at work). This is the same laptop style in a full layout but £13. It doesn't have the USB ports and has a plastic surround rather than aluminium but the feel is superb. There is also a wireless one with mouse for £25.

I don't think I'm breaking any rules by mentioning price because I just checked and OcUK don't sell them.

I splashed out for this keyboard, pricey yes, but still very pleased with it..

As stated typing on it is very nice, you do feel ** typing faster due to the reduced travel, and does have a solid feel when u do press the keys..

Not sure how it will cope with gaming, banging or pressing hard down on the W key in the heat of the moment..But seems to be coping fine..

having the ultra low profile, makes it looks very expensive, which I guess it is...

That is nice. It's a shame that OcUK don't stock the Hiper aluminium keyboard, which is also very nice.
