After a year in our uni house of playin fight night round3 on ps3 I stumped up the cash for round 4 (on xbox) today and I have to say I'm disappointed, you dont seem to have anywhere near as much control over your fighter as before, I looked at a review of it today before I bought it and the guy said that the counter punchin thing can be a bit on the computer favoured side and from the few fights I just had it seems to be almost completely one sided, you cant counter anywhere near as well as you could on the old one.

Has anyone else found this game lacking in everything except the graphics? When we get the new pro evo it takes a while to adjust and score goals etc. but this doesnt feel like that, I'm half tempted to take it back tomorrow and buy the old one, save a bit of money and all.

glad I'm not the only one, I've just turned mine back on and its frozen at the Fight Night logo twice in a row, what a joke this. Definitely gonna take this back I think, the old one was amazing, still be plenty of people left online to whoop I dont doubt.

Anyone else have anythin positive to say about it?

Round 3 is amazing I nearly sold it for £6 today but thought I may as well keep the older fighter brilliant game... Number 4 isn't too bad wouldn't say it's anything great I've had some good fun knockouts on it I quite enjoyed it whilst I rented it although I wouldn't justify spending £40+ on the game no way. I like how when your connected to the PSN (or live) you get espn radio and news feeds, had a advert for bronson made the game feel bit more real although suppose EA just get a lot more money for that.

I think round 4 is a great game but not everyone's cup of tea

have to say I've been playin most of the night and it definitely is gettin better, it still doesnt feel as though you have as much control etc. but it is better than not bein able to do anythin at all like it was before.

Gonna have another fight then bed I reckon. Peace out y'all.

I had all the complaints brought up when I initially started playing the game, but after getting used to it the only one I would still agree with is in regards to the counter punching. Infact I also disagree about the one positive you mentioned, I much prefered the more realistic art style of FN3 :p.

Hated the controls at first for example, very much used to them now though. Would probably say I enjoy the stick controls more if anything and certainly won't be moving to buttons when the patch is released. The biggest mark I would have against only having the stick controls in there is that you lose the pick up and play factor. If I wanted to have a game against someone who hasn't played it before, they're simply not going to bother when I tell them they have to use the sticks. For that reason alone the button controls should have been present at launch.

I don't feel I have any less control over my boxer than I did in FN3, but I might not be able to give a fair judgement on that as I eventually played FN3 so much (it's in the 100's of hours quite easily :o) that I had to stop playing as I could no longer see anything other than the mechanics of the game when fighting. When it gets to the point that it might just as well be a turd on a stick as be an accurate representation of Roy Jones Jr, that's when you know you should stop playing.

The counter punching I still feel is stacked in the CPU's favour, I don't think there's any chance of me being able to make as many blocking counter punches as the CPU does, but this could be partially down to the fact that I'm generally a very offensive fighter. I tend to focus more on counters using the weave to duck under high shots, I find this fairly successful and certainly more so than traditional blocking.

As for online, my sub recently expired so I won't be playing it unless I renew, but the one game I did get chance to play I got destroyed by a spammer using a created boxer throwing body shots. Never bothered again so that's a very definate negative against the 1000's of fights over 3 profiles I put into FN3.

Not a big fan either compared to FN3 - the controls dont "feel" the same and you cant get nearly as much boxing in as you could on the old one.

I've only played FN4 a handful of times and can't even sell the sod for all the reasons above tbh.

For all you people that cant punch with the stick theres a patch comming out (sept I think) that enables you to use the old fashioned button mashing control (as in FNR3).

I dont think you should use the patch so you can button mash, it takes away the entire point of the game, without the sticks its just pretty graphics and nothing else.

With the sticks you can get mint at it and have realistic fights, on FN3 I could actually do combos that I wanted, and I mean like if someone said jab jab hook straight dodge straight or summat I could do it in one go, on this one I can now move a little better and things but still not got anywhere near as much control over my throws, also when you play online against someone else it seems to be a lot more evenly suited in the counter punch area.

Although one bad thing about online play is like when you play Pro Evo online and everyone was always just Inter, on this one everyone is just Ali in Heavyweight and either Sugar Ray in middleweight.

Still debating whether to take it back but I am enjoying it a lot more now though, I know I'll enjoy FN3 quite a bit if I go swap it for that, but if I keep this I might enjoy it as much as 3 the first time round.

The fact you have to use the right stick presently does make it a lot more inaccessible, 2 of my friends who played FN3 regularly will maybe have one game and don't wanna play anymore, luckily my best mate has taken the time to get used to it as well as another friend so we have some good matches.

After using the stick for a while it IS a better method of control, occasionally yeah, a few punches you don't want will get thrown but it is much more fluid, also makes blocking a lot easier not having to shift your hands down to the stick from the buttons.

Am glad they are bringing buttons back though, means a few more mates to beat :D

^I've said the same in the main FN4 thread.
After a drunken night out, FN3 is the game of preference - it's easier to pickup because you have a choice of configs. FN4 doesn't even get a look in, hell the fighters look worse imo too, facewise.
