Here's the Focus RS my father recently repaired, catD -

52k miles, no service history, new clutch just fitted. How much do you think it's worth? Thinking of getting rid of my Corsa VXR and changing to this.

Pics of original damage and repair - http://s400.photobucket.com/albums/pp89/gywhdskj/Focus RS/

the damaged pics are a bit dark

what sort of accident was it in ?

Yeah my old man isn't one for photography lol.

It was side impact, fair bit of damage but obviously all repaired now. Just wondering what people would value it at as I've been offered it at what I think is a good price. It cost £6.3k damaged btw, was way over priced, I can have it for less than the purchase price.

i mean do you know how the accident happened ? (not that this has any bearing on whether you should buy it, i'm just interested)

lol :p No idea how it happened, was bought off co-part auction last year. Not concerned on how it happend myself as obviously I know it's been reparied to a high standard as I seen the work being done. Unfortunatly cars like this have become very popular over seas lately which puts prices up at auction. (no proof of accident if registered abroad, just as damaged jap cars can be put back on the road HPI clear here)

edit... as for replaced parts - b pillar, headlight, front wing and door.

I recently read that a lot of body parts for these are getting increasingly harder to find. Repaired at the right time!

Defo change to this if driving a corsa.

ha cheers for that, you driven both cars?

edit - for what it's worth I find the VXR a much better drive and the interior is far superior. Although for rarity and road presence I'd chose the RS - for what I can have it though and how much I owe for the VXR, it may be worth the change for me, before the VXR drops even more in price.

Can't believe this went for £6.3k damaged catd

He paid £6.3k for it damaged!?

How long ago?

I'd have thought he would get more than £5.5k, but it sounds like he is still going to take a sizeable hit on it if it was £6.3 before any work was done.

Hes knows it was too much, not bothered about that and realises obviously isn't going to make a profit, as said above overseas bidders are pushing the prices of cars like this up due to them not being recorded in their own country. Prices on these do seem to have dropped within the last 6 months anyway regardless :(

About 6 months ago I think now, been taxed on the road for 3 months so yeah prob 6 months ago was the purchase date.

And I always thought that there was some money to be made in the Salvage/Write off game. Obviously not if foreigners keep on bumping up prices :(.

Depends really! This was just a bad buy. Bought an ST Focus the same day for £1500ish which needed very little work and worth 3k+. The JDm STi v7 we bought years ago we could have made £6k+ on, instead my uncle had it for a while and then I had it for a year, still sold it on for a profit 3 years later including paying for all servicing and tyres, brakes etc.

There is still money in salvalge just need to be careful what you buy, a lot of the more "rare" cars like this demand a premium for the reasons already stated. Buy a damaged JDM car and it's unregistered here and you can have a tidy profit margin.

You win some and lose some I guess :).

Does common stuff seem to turn much of a profit compared to rarer cars?

To me it would seem like a catch 22. You might not get much interest from overseas buyers so you'd get the car cheaper in the first place, but you'd have to sell it cheaper because the public have a lot more (non Cat C/D) cars to choose from?
