Hi, i bought a brand new Foxconn Blackops motherboard and some new DDR3 Memory to go with it.

I have only just gotten round to building the PC today with it been the weekend and all. Here is the hardware Spec:

OCZ GameXStream PSU
NZXT Guardian 921
FoxConn Blackops X48
G-Skill RipJaw DDR3 1600mhz
Intel Q9550 / TRUE 120
HD 5850 Radeon
x2 Hard Drives
1x Lightscribe Drive

Ok, i built the PC outside of the tower just to make sure nothing shorts the board in the tower, installed minimal components - PSU/1 stick of ram/CPU+Heatsink/Gfx card, Front panel connectors of the tower etc.

I then switch the mains on and press the power button on the case, magic the lights on the tower come on, as do the fans light up and spin, so i got the connectors hooked up right anyway.

However on boot, im getting POST code error 03 on the digital led on the motherboard, looking this up in google read that this is caused because the BIOS chip needs flashing to the latest. Well i noticed the motherboard has a dual-bios, and bios jumper selector, so i thought i would force it into BIOS 2 and hope that this would work, same difference.

What happens is, all the lights and fans power on for 5 seconds or so, turn themselves off and then switch themselves back on - this repeats until i turn the PSU off.

I tried contacting overclockers by phone earlier but kept getting stuck at Queue 4-6, i sent a webnote but have not yet had a reply.

Is there anybody that can assist me here?

In the webnote i asked if the following could be done:

1) RMA the board, i will pay extra towards this one: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-147-GI

2) I send the motherboard, could overclockers flash to the latest for me?

3) RMA this board, overclockers send an already flashed board

4) RMA the board and refund me.

The other idea i had was buy a cheap socket 775 cpu from overclockers (like this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-273-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=793), drop that in - hope the motherboard recognises it and i flash with the old model cpu, then put the Q9550 back in and send the cpu back (dont know if i could do that).

Sorry for the long post, had to make sure i put as much info in as possible.

My order no for the board is: OC888116

I hope i can get a quick solution, i have had no pc for over 2 weeks, been stuck on a laptop. Forgot to add, when i connected the HD 5850 Graphics card, the flimsy plastic bit at the end of the PCI-E slot has snapped, will this affect anything (return wise)?

Looking at it some more, i have never replaced a BIOS chip myself and looks like i would require some additional tools? Doing it myself could be a no go, so what advise can anyone give now?

Thanks!

hi I had the same board + memory the board would not post.
I phoned OC.UK they told me the memory would not work with blackops.
they told me patriot viper ddr3 1600 mhzs stock code [my-022-pa ] would
work . got the patriot memory same as before board would not post.
sent board + memory on RMA for testing the board was faulty so they sent
me a new one. still havent got my memory back.

it looks a good board, but im thinking of going with the Gigabyte i posted.

wonder why you never got the memory back.

did you have to pay to RMA it, or did DPD come and collect it?

Thanks for the reply, im also messaging in the Foxconn support forum but seem to be getting little help. http://forum.foxconnchannel.com/TitleDetail.aspx?ID1=797909A6-8B22-4030-9954-0B5CB43B675F&ID2=021D6A8F-68D4-4C9E-8F91-7D8FDA3DAC3A&ID3=102EAAF0-9DDB-46A5-AA9D-47D6A6209B7D&Name1=Quantum+Force&Name2=BLACKOPS&Name3=Blackops+Error+Code+03

Was your error code 03 aswell??

This board is picky about ram, the newer i5/i7 optimized DDR3 should work in theory but it seems to be hit or miss for most people.

TBH I would look for a Gigabyte UD3R/P, you will get far less issues. The foxconn board is great once you get it working but it really requires watercooling as well.

yeah im hoping overclockers can see the situation im in, if they can RMA it im happy to put extra money towards the Gigabyte GA-EP45T Extreme motherboard, sounds too much hassle with the bios chips and things.

Guess im stuck until monday now for some kind of answer from the staff.

i got this board last week with 2x2gb corsair ram and had no problems and even got it to overclock to 3ghz with q6600 and it is a bargain as it was around 250 but im only hving till christmass and then going to i7 setup

i sold my Q6600 otherwise i could have used it to flash it, i think with the Q9550 coming out after the motherboard, thats why its not recongised, i might buy a cheap core duo to drop in and flash it unless i can get a replacement bios chip sent out.

hi my memory is being tested but not until monday as they had no time
to test firday . once I get memory back I WILL post and let you know how I
get on. yes I had to pay for RMA.

well i looked over the foxconn support forums, i am not the only one to have this problem: http://forum.foxconnchannel.com/TitleDetail.aspx?ID1=797909A6-8B22-4030-9954-0B5CB43B675F&ID2=021D6A8F-68D4-4C9E-8F91-7D8FDA3DAC3A&ID3=2746A0C6-D96C-47E8-900E-E7FD684C8216&Name1=Quantum+Force&Name2=BLACKOPS&Name3=%5bTechnical+Support%5d%5bTechnical+Support%5d

Error 03 seems to mean the motherboard does not recognise the cpu, im going to buy a cheap Dual-Core E2180, drop that in, flash both bios chips then put the Q9550 in and hope it works.

If then the ram is incompatible i will see about swapping it over.
