Asus X99-S not booting with a game controller plugged in

If I have any of my game controllers (such as xbox 360 wired controller, sim pedals etc.) plugged into any of the USB sockets, the PC won't boot up.
It works fine if I only plug them in after it's booted up.

(Other USB devices such as USB keyboard, USB mouse and USB speakers don't have a problem).

It's a new build with up to date BIOS (1502) running defaults.

These are the things Asus support have suggested and I've tried without luck:-

Please go into BIOS - Advanced and under USB Configuration put EHCI Legacy USB Support on ENABLED.
From the BOOT menu please put USB Support to "Partial Initialization".
Please also check the BOOT Option Priority and make sure USB is not among the the boot drives it looks for on startup.
You could also try going to BIOS - Advanced - APM Configuration and put the ErP Ready option to Enabled S4+S5, Save & Exit and test to see if the issue is fixed.
If not please try putting it on Enabled S5 and see.

Anybody have anymore ideas I could try ?

I have virtually the same system, all but the bios revision (1401) and the graphics card, mine is the 970 but the rest is the same.

I have my wired 360 controller plugged in also a wireless 360 dongle and it boots fine.

I did have a similar problem a while ago when my key board was dying. It seems if no key board is detected it would hang for an age. Just wondering if your controllers are conflicting with your keyboard causing it not to be detected.

you could also try plugging you controller or keyboard into the USB 2 ports.

Thanks, it looks like the issue may have been solved with the keyboard plugged into one of the black USB 2.0 ports. (The xbox 360 controller is plugged into one of the USB 3.0 ports via a USB hub).

I've done 3 or 4 re-starts with no issues so far. I'll plug my other controllers in and see how it goes.

USB 3 problems- 'Again'.

Reading the Deluxe thread it is clearly the case that 'luck' is the key component to getting a board without any issues with the rear USB 3 ports.

I had this problem with my X99 Deluxe and a PS4 controller plugged into a USB2 port on my case (connected to one of the internal headers). I solved it by not plugging in the controller until Windows had loaded.

I've done a bit more testing and it doesn't boot with my sim racing pedals plugged in even with the keyboard in the black USB 2.0 port.

It certainly won't boot with both the xbox 360 controller and sim pedals plugged in no matter which port is used.

I think it's a lost cause really. I purchased a USB hub with on/off switches for the ports. At least that will save some wear and tear on the USB ports not having to plug and unplug the controllers every time I switch on or re-start the PC.

This PC build has been a bit disappointing with these USB issues and it's put me off buying an Asus motherboard in future.

I have the same problem with a Samsung dvd usb drive can`t even use it to install the windows 8.1 OS. Had to use a internal sata DVD drive. With windows installed no problems with using the usb drive but only if you plug it in after you have booted into windows. The usb issue on the ASUS deluxe and S etc. are just one big **** take.

Disable XHCI from within the BIOS as well as legacy support and try again. Failing that try going into boot options within the BIOS and set USB to fully initialised.

Note disabling xHCI will remove USB 3.0 support so you'll have to see what settings work best. It sounds as though there's a legacy device which xHCI is whining about. Lastly try plugging the controller into one of the boards few USB 2.0 ports.

Here on my X99 Deluxe, my USB keyboard isn't recognized at boot time (for post) if it's plugged into a HUB (plugged in a back port) but works fine if I plug it on the front panel. Pretty lame... I get 'no keyboard recognized'

Yep, I've experimented with all these things with no luck.

My PC was booting with my sim pedals plugged into the front USB 2.0 port but not if I also plugged in the xbox 360 controller in the front or the keyboard in the rear USB 2.0.
