Im really not sure who thought it was a good idea to send the press the first 4 episodes of GoT to preview. Surely its just asking for trouble?

I would have thought that just sending out the first episode was more normal, especially as for the last 2 years its been the most pirated TV show. You would have thought that there would have been much more security around it.

I'm a little conflicted about this, on one hand I don't want to watch them in ****** SD quality, on the other I don't them ruined by spoilers for the next four weeks :/

What's annoying in the UK is it's shown on Sky Atlantic the day after the US showing. Those of us who get their Sky channels through another provider our options are either wait till it's shown on Sky One, not sure how long that takes, or acquire it by other means.

Or pay for sky atlantic through other means, Now TV etc.

I understand peeps who have missed a show downloading a torrent instead of waiting ages until its out on another medium. But leaking 4 episodes like this, its going to hurt the show at least indirectly. A TV channel pays big money for major show, advertisers pay big money for ads on TV. They are all going to start wondering why if by the time episode 4 airs everyone and his dog has either already seen it or is half as enthusiastic because of spoilers. And if that big money goes away the shows go away or dwindle in resources and quality.

Ehhh I don't think so, it's on tonight and those who watch it on TV will keep on doing it and those who pirate will either do it now or tomorrow.

Its no different to when HBO streaming was +1 episode ahead of every TV channel in the world. (I think it was like this for nearly all season 2 and then the odd episode from the start of later series to get people subscribed)

people still watched it on tv

Really don't know what to think about this.

If they were HD quality then I would likely grab them in a heartbeat but at poor bitrate SD it's much less tempting. But as others have mentioned, this is GoT one of the biggest spoiler based shows and people will be littering social media with spoilers.

Next to impossible to happen but HBO really need to take a lesson from Netflix this time and get the whole season out there in its full glory before it divides everyone. For instance my boss at work a 35+ year old woman who watches GoT on TV when it airs would jump at the chance to see the first episodes early despite the quality and would then spend the next few weeks dropping annoying unsubtle hints at spoilers, which i'm sure in turn will make me think **** it and download them, which will still ruin part of the experience as I watch everything on a projector so the low quality will be very noticeable but the storyline is more important than the visuals so its a lesser of two evils. Will do everything in my power to shut down anyone who tries to tell her more episodes have leaked :p
