Woohoo. Better that Google takes over Youtube than the American broadasters, ABC, CNN, etc.

Any thoughts?

SAN FRANCISCO - Google today said it will buy YouTube for $1.65 billion in stock in a deal that unites one of the Internet’s marquee companies with one of its rising stars.

A YouTube representative said the startup’s primary spokeswoman won’t be available for comment until after the stock market closes.

A partner for the venture capital firm Sequoia Capital, which owns about 30 percent of privately held YouTube, also was unavailable for comment Monday because he was tied up in a meeting. Sequoia was an early investor in Google and retains a seat on the company’s board of directors.

Whats the point when they have Google Video?
Plus they are opening themselfs into some lawsuits.
compared to youtube google video has been a failure, it also doesnt cater to the same market as youtube

All we need now is Google to make their own their own home entertainment system that's Live - or perhaps working with Apple's iTV? Then damn will that be something to look forward to in the future.

yes, google are becoming absolutly massive. microsoft are watching very closely believe me.

google are thinking of moving into the OS market ;)

Google will use YouTube as a new platform for adverts. (perhaps adverts re-encoded into uploaded content at the start and end?)

GoogleVideo and YouTube together are unstoppable in terms of video content online.

Well think about it, if they buy youtube, then googlevideo has no competition, and they have the youtube fanbase to play with
