2008 is nearly over and I'm sure there are no more new releases due until 2009. So with that in mind I think it's a good time to see what people consider to be their game of the year 2008.

Remember that these are just people's opinions so if you dissagree then take it outside and don't trash the thread ;)

Here's mine.

3rd Place = Burnout Paradise (PS3)

2nd Place = LittleBigPlanet (PS3)

GOTY = GTA IV (PS3)

Biggest dissapointment of 2008 = Saints Row 2

MGS4, Gears of war 2 and rock band are all contenders for me, though the game I've played most is still halo 3 :P

1st = GTA IV
2nd = MGS 4
3rd = Nothing really cause these were the two best games i played all year.

However, im getting Gears 2 for Christmas, so it will definitely be there.

Not sure about 2nd and 3rd, but game i've most enjoyed has to be Dead Space. I can see why some might not like it, but I just enjoyed it the whole way through and felt it finished just at the right point before it got too long.

Very difficult question, and i'll probably get flamed for my answer

1: Resistance 2 - i just loved every moment of it, a pure blooded intense shooter with a top notch multiplayer.

2: Metal Gear Solid 4 - Just epic

3: Little Big Planet - it would be at number one if it weren't for the game breaking lag when you play with randomers. Due to the fact i mostly play games during the day when most other people aren't i have to resort to playing by myself which is not what the game was about.

Top three would be Gears of War 2, GTA IV and Fallout 3. It would be hard to put them in any order though.

Biggest disappointment was Mario Kart Wii. It's still fun in multiplayer but it's nowhere near as good as the DS version.

Can't place them in order (may edit later).

Resistance 2
LittleBigPlanet
Burnout Paradise

Biggest Disappointment of 2008: Gears of War 2. This soon after the release, I expected to still be playing this game. I am not, for various reasons. (samey, Matachmaking issues, non immersive SP etc). Graphically it is probably most impressive game released this year (imo).

rp2000

1st: GoW2
2nd: Dead Space
3rd: Saint Row 2

Biggest Disappointment: GTA IV, don't get me wrong i really enjoyed the game. It just seemed to be lacking something, i didn't enjoy it as much as some of the old GTA games. And SR2 i think showed how fun sandbox games can be.

3rd place = Mega Man 9: Great to relive this NES days on Xbox 360 and to have the gameplay based on Mega Man 2, may favourite Mega Man game.

2nd place = Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix: I'll admit that Street fighter 2 is my favourite game of all time (with QuakeWorld not too far behind). Its great to play this rebalanced game with updated graphics and music with smooth online play. Its a shame Xbox 360 D-Pad sucks but i got a Hori fighting stick and that is fantastic

1st Place = Fifa 09: I love this game and never get bored playing it. I think the best feature is the online play which has been improved by the fine folks of OcUK with the Fifa leagues.

1st: Rock band - The second best music game i've ever played. It's just awesome.
2nd: Fable 2 - Story - Goood, Achievements - Gooood, Everything - Gooood
3rd: Banjo Kazooie: XBLA - The transfer from N64 to 360 is brilliant. Best arcade game of the year by far.

Dissapointment: GTA4/Fallout 3 - Can't decide which as I was massivley dissapointed by both.

I haven't played a huge amount of the new games, but unfortunatley, most of them have been dissapointing. Very hard to choose a GOTY this time round.

1st - Left 4 Dead (360)
2nd - Rock Band 1/2
3rd - MGS4 (Mainly for the excellent cinematic quality and graphical achievements)

Disappointment - COD - World at war - Just couldn't get into it and much preferred COD4.
