Quality like this goes into the cinematic intros in games :(

And you guys wonder why drivers are behind with nvidia...

Well they claim this is realtime due to the "horsepower" of the Ultra which is enough NOT to require pre-computation.

Lets see...

ps: Head vid

Just looks like a model head stuck through zbrush/mudbox for painting to me =/....

Still pretty though.

Quite impressive :)

Hopefully they will release the .exe as a tech demo soon. I'd much rather play around with it in real time than watch a pre-rendered demo.

I'm pretty underwhelmed to be honest...I've pretty much always felt that way about the tech demos though - they look good, but are always hyped as being amazingly uber photo-realistic/etc/yawn.

Is it wrong to want body deformation in action games with 'that' level of detail in the character, ala next gen soldier of fortune :D

It's not wrong to want it, but it will take quite a long time before you see it.

First up, the difference between creating a realistic normal map for a fixed geometry and one for a deformable geometry is fairly large, both in terms of human effort and computational cost.

Second, we're seeing the whole of the GPUs power utilised to render a single head against a relatively sparse background. Clearly it's going to take an order of magnitude more GPU power before you can get several of these objects running around, complete with bodies of similar detail, in a detailed game environment.

Still, a nice taste of what's to come though :)

Not bad, not bad, but I've seen much more impressive. The skin shader wasn't anything special, couldn't even see any sub surface scattering going on there.

I bet this single model uses the whole Ultra card to render realtime. I wonder what will happen when you play an FPS with 20 people in :p

ps: Not as if ATI's crap are any better atm!
