8800 Ultra "Human Head" Demo

A big fat LOL to those who claimed, in that thread, that the head was completely pre-rendered.

what are you going to do with it ?.
It is a load of crap if they could put it into a game with with no slow down then fine, how many of those demo's we see the light of day, same with ati's demo with the shop looks nice that about it,when will we see games that good 2 or 3 years time maybe more.

About 25fps at 1920x1200 using supersample multiplier of 1.0, whatver that is :)

EDIT: forgot to add i was using 16xAF and 16xTR CSAA (though AA doesn't seem to make a difference ;)

It's just a tech demo... it's not meant to demonstrate what you will see in current games.

Which makes it more or less pointless. Its like saying "ooh this is what our card can do when its maxed out...but forget ever seeing it in any games".

Tech demos are a waste of time, they may loook pretty but the cards never ever gonna be able to do that in a game. :(

put it this way, nvidia and ati show what the posibilities could be with these tech demos.
they dont make the games, thats down to developers. consider how long it must take to make a single model like this, multiply that number by hundreds for a full game's characters/models/terrain/textures etc.
it would take so long to make a game with this level of detail it just wouldnt be worth it, would cost the developer way too much money in the long run

oh and this demo looks freakin' awesome! :D

It's called research and developement  You work on the programming now, so you'll be ready for the hardware in 5 years or whatever.

Where are the individually rendered nose hairs with realistic wind and snotty particle effects?!?

Disappointed :(

:p

Seriously though, it looks nice. Almost purely a sales pitch though. Some interesting things they can do with sending the shade map to a 2D texture for manipulation then back onto the model before the final render. Very nice and quick.

This will be seen in games in the future but ironically ATis architecture appears to be much better suited to that kind of multitask per shader work. As for now though if you tried doing something like that for more then one model your framerates would be somewhere past the decimal point.
