Built 3 systems over a year ago using the Hyper 580 R type. 2 out of 3 of these power supplies have now gone. First one went about 2 weeks ago. Silient death no power to board no LED on the PCB when switched on, 2nd Hiper went today on brothers PC, the FAN is clicking when swithced on although it does work he should not use it as he will put other parts at risk.

Problem is the 3rd Hiper is in my system. No signs of it failing yet

Should I replace it as a matter of precaution? I have 2GB, AMD 64 4200 x2, 2 hdds, and a 1950 ATI Pro, I think i m looking for something around 500 watts.

Or should I keep on using the hiper, and put the other two down as bad ones. I heard a lot of bad stuff about this psu.

This is pretty worrying. If (when, lol) the hiper goes does it damage any other components? I don't want to wreck my new system!

why have u got it in youre system also?

I purcased 2 black and 1 red blacks were purchased 2 weeks after each other so different batches. 1 red and 1 black has died so far.

Maybe the new ones are better, still I think the replacement they send me out might be going on the famous auction site.

After 2 outa 3 personally I do not trust this psu. 66% failure rate within 1 year. most PSUs have had last at least 3 years.

The only experiance i have of them is bad, but saying that it was when i was running my intel p4 3.8 was was notorious power supplu killer lol, but yup you guessed it got killed and promptly returned for my monney back, havent touched them since nor will i , the only thing i like about them psus is the box it comes in i still miss thta box to this day, it was damned handy to put all of my pc bitts and pieces in lol.

its just a matter of time...tick tock...tick tock

2 out of 3, thats almost half.

i would replace and save the worrying, run it in a crappy system or hotwire it till it breaks then get ** money back

The problem is its over 28 days. Correct me if I am wrong but if a product is over this peroid they only have to replace it.

I would love my money back on this power supply as quite frankly I do not want another one. Not that I want a bomb inside my machine.

when I get paid next week i think I am going to remove the hiper in this machine and replace it with the tagen 500Watt, should manage the 1950pro with ease.

How long is the warranty?

The warrenty is 3 years on these suckers. However after having 2 fail on me in 1 year peroid I believe is unacceptable. I have lost faith in the Hiper R type and truth be told would rather not have another back as a replacment just to fail a second time. Since every time they blow I am risking my components.

Has Anyone ever had there money back or any other compensation I think when I RMA this one I will also kick up a stink, surely they can see it through my eyes. It seems to be only the R types, they do a non-modular one which Ive heard no complaints of.

OR either full refund or the PSU failed.

Why Should I have to go out and buy another brand becuase of their lousey build quaility at my expense.

You would have to supply definate proof the psu caused it, you woudl need a 3rd party involved to test both the psu and the compute rit fired
and then you would need to read the small print in the leaflet you got in the box, proberly says soemthing liek, we are not responsible for damnage the product can cuase balh balh, and also look for the one that says this product should be profesionaly installed, by a computer technician, if it isnt they can say you installe dit incorectly, glad im qualified lol

I can't see any reason why hiper would give you anything other than a replacement. After 28 days I think, all that they are entitled to do is fix/replace it. I would send them a carefully worded email though and see if I could get my money back, although wouldn't hope for that.

thats exactly the way I see it, Although I will have more of a case if number 3 goes.

I remember when these Hipers were the PSUs to have. Everyone was after them. Now they are getting as bad a reputation as the QTecs :(
you know something i have got a q-tec, ive had it in my athlon xp 2600+ since they was new, and it has never played up lol, it all depends what hardware ect you are running, how demanding it is, saying that i woudl never trust it on my nice gaming rig lol

What are the chances of the hiper taking out other components when it goes?
TBH they are much more likely to just fail totally than actually blow up. I'm gonna keep using mine, then just not buy one again. :)
