How easy is this Ikea LACK mod?

I assume it is just the three middle 'shelves' removed and two are put back in a more central position?

Cheers

yep:) im nnot sure if other people have fixed the shelves in place but i didnt bother lol. the weight of the tv means they dont move about anyway :)

Not sure, but that is an ikea bookshelf unit that is normally upright. I have the modded Dual LACK tv benches, but the problem with them is the limited clearance for amps, as in something like an onkyo could not be squeezed in, in the slightest. That IKEA bookshelf unit in the pic is a much better bet. Ask scary squirrel, it's his setup :)

The only thing is that I doubt the side panels (wher ethe tv is sitting) are meant for heavy loading. But that shouldn't be a problem as the 50 in the picture is a fine example. PLus those 2 big central dividers should be enough to prevent excessive bending.

Looks awesome !

Yeah I thought that but they will only be under compression and my 5090 isn't that heavy.

On another note I get it back tomorrow, they had to replace the panel.

Chosing furniture is a nightmare though, the joy of moving house.

The 5090 isn't that heavy !!!!!! Are you Martin Johnson ? :p

Yup they should be under compression as there isn't really enough distance between the uprights to force the bottom edge into tension. It'l be fine, and i wouldn't recommend the Dual Lack like I have. Even if it was a single LACK it would bend the same amount. Nothing worrying, but not exactly comfortable either :D

Well I got it out the box and fitted the stand on my own. They are only about 30kg. :p

I have lifted engine bottom ends out of engine bays on my own before ;)

They are not once the 12kg stand is fitted. :p

Fitted mine to the swivel stand myslef also and lifted onto the AV rack. Not the cleverest idea but I just couldn't wait for a mate to finish work after 7pm and come around to help me out :D

Great find fornowagain !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quite simple to do as there are already some holes at those points, so all that is needed is a thick drill, some threaded rod, nuts, and washers :)

Picked up the brown/black on a big IKEA shop yesterday. Looks very nice so far, need to do wiring and get some black cloth for the back so you cannot see the wall.

Very sturdy though and as it is on carpet, you can slide it out to get to the wiring behind - bonus.

Hello.

Well, this is my living room, and as stated above, this is simply a LACK Bookshelf (http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/00045560) which I have on the side.

As for the shelves, they aren't even fixed. I just slid them into position to suit me and then the weight of the TV keeps them secure.

I hope this helps.

Whilst on the subject of the Ikea Lack, I have the beech effect one but would like to stain it a different colour, do you reckon this is possible?

I like :) I may look into one of these for when Im temporarily moving house as a stop gap between putting my wall stand up at the new place. Black one would do the job nicely from the looks of this!

No, it's not actually wood!

Most of them aren't wood, but I'm pretty sure the birch effect ones are real wood veneers. I've got some birch ones and they look like they're real wood veneers. It's got that shimmery effect and the grain is pretty unique over the whole two tables.

My oak effect one though is blatantly not real oak.
