What are peoples thoughts on this?

Quite a rare car by all accounts, never imported officially into the UK as far as I know. Same/better performance as the Civic Type-R but a lot more exclusive.

Anyone got one and/or have any comments about them?

Merlin has a modified one.

Awesome car, considered one when I got the S2000, fancied the poser car though :p

Not being helpful, but I like them.

Id consider one in a few years... when they come down in price a bit more.

I think they look great and go well... reliable too.

My main concerns when I looked into buying one recently:

1. Insurance. Even by import standards, they're shocking. Guy I bought my DC2 off managed to get his down to £1500FC. Think he was about 26?

2. Parts availablity. a lot of stuff needs to be imported specifically, and can take a while.

3. Resale. They seem to stick around for ages, even when they're a good price. But then, its a small market I suppose.

Delivery guy for my local chinese has a Type-R in blue.

Has great road presence, even with its 10" back box and large spoiler:

I'd say you'll find most parts are generic and can be reused from other Honda models of similar engine like the CTR, but that's just a hunch.

If you're an enthusiast for cars, like to be in an exclusive position and are willing to pay a little more to be in that position, why not?

I got a 2004 model in magnolia. Production has ceased now, so residuals may be good in the long term for well kept cars.

Faster than a UK CTR as standard, handle much better too, as standard I think they 1/4 in about 14.3.

Most parts can be had from any UK Honda dealer next day, there's a massive store in Belgium. Prices are quite reasonable, servicing every 10 - 12k. I average 28mpg, tyres 13k a set, Brembo pads are amazingly cheap but the discs are serious wonga.

They make a bit of noise - there's no sound proofing, not the greatest cruiser ever built but certainly more refined than the DC2.

I can confirm this too. I've got a CTR and have been a passenger in Merlins ITR and they're worlds apart. The handling is what impressed me most (which is a pretty good complement coming from an Elise owner!)

I'd love a DC2, my mate has a white DC5 with a full titanium exhaust and HKS suspension, he has more money than sense, he not that good of a mate for me to know all the mods, but Ive been a passenger and WOW! they are stunning! Dont know how much better than a well looked after and set up DC2 they are (if any) but certainly a little more up to date.

I agree! I think I prefer the look of a well looked after DC2. one day when I have stopped spending all my money on motorbikes I'll buy a drivers car!

Thanks for that write-up. :)

I've got a CTR at the moment and whilst it's great for what it is the release of the new Type-R is going to eat into residuals big time (regardless of the fact I think the new one looks crap). Plus I'm kinda sick of seeing loads on the road. :p

Saw a black DC5 coming the opposite way on the way to work recently and whilst it looked standard the road presence was awesome. Seems to tick all the boxes for me - exclusivity, not ridiculously expensive, CTR performance & reliability, CTR running costs, etc. Only negative I guess would be insurance (being an import).

I'm dead set on getting a black one myself now, but they seem to be pretty rare. Seen plenty of CWs available for sale, as well as a couple of blue ones.

Spotted you over at the DC5 forum a few mins ago. Re the black paint - rare indeed because the run of black paint accounts for less than 2% of total production. I wanted black initially but gave up. You should see the white with the naked eye though - it's quite nice, digi pics dont pick the colour out very well.

I'm seriously snowed in with work atm but if you do some searches here for "DC5" you might find a better write up by me on the DC5 - I think Vanilla was asking last about one. Or just ask away and i'll reply when the phone stops ringing.

Carefull over at DC5 forum about asking for advice - the "in" joke there is to put people off them if they don't like the sound of you. Bless em :D

I too can vouch for the superb handling of this. For me the Civic just don't compare in any way, Integra wins hands down, looks better, rarer, faster and superior handling. :)

Id like a DC2 but the prices they are fetching at the moment are totally insane

I wouldn't call £5-8k "insane" - especially considering that the depriciation is practically zero - and espcially as its one of the best drivers cars around.

Unless it was a type and you meant the DC5 - in which case you can get those for £12k. Again, for whats on offer, I'd say that was cheap!

O/T you weren't driving up the M5 Friday night were you, well your missus driving you in the passenger seat? :)

The facelift version got rid of that.

In Japan the later DC2 are going for as much as DC5's now  and the Evo review has only done the DC2 more favours in terms of price.
