So it seems the Samsungs are out of my price range, £500 is just too much.

Are there any 1080P 27" screens worth looking at that are cheaper?

I'm running a 226BW at the moment and theres not much point in getting 23/24" might as well make the jump to 27" but I would like it to be 120hz

Note: This post makes the assumption that you have no interest in 3D gaming. I based this from memory of some of your other posts but apologies if I've got his wrong.

The only current alternative is the Acer HN274H which hasn't hit full retail availability here. I'm afraid I can't help you on ETA as Acer and their integrated PR representitives are all useless and deserve to be fired. :) It is a similar mess in the United States with this model seeing the light of day for a few weeks and then vanishing into thin air. As with the Samsung part of the price you are paying with these models is for the integrated 3D solution (in the case of the Acer, Nvidia 3D Vision which is all part of the package). ASUS may release the VG278H in the near future (provided it isn't vapourware) but again this includes an integrated transmitter and 3D as part of the package. It is possible that they will release some sort of 'HE' model without the integrated 3D capabilities but I wouldn't count your chickens before they hatch. I know this isn't what you want to here but it's just the way of things at the moment - pushing the whole '3D experience' as an integral part of the product, expense included, whether the user wants it or not!

Another diversion that will lead onto a road you don't want to be on is the development of passive 3D technologies. There is a big market drive in this direction by LG at the moment and they have near-future plans for 23" and 25" 'passive 3D' monitors. I think it's only a matter of time before monitors using this technology creep up to 27". Unfortunately 120Hz isn't a requirement for this technology and adds unnecessary expense, which is why I mentioned it was a road you don't want to be going down if you have no interest in 3D.

Don't forget that there is a large market for 120Hz 2D. I could care less about 3D but ultra-smooth 2D is very important.

I got an email back directly from Asus saying their 120Hz 27" will release in June. I wouldn't be surprised though if it is almost as pricey as the Samsung. I am just waiting for the Samsung myself as this semi-gloss "ultra-clear" panel sounds really nice.

Not large enough for the manufacturers to take much notice I'm afraid. At least not just at the moment. Once the 3D obsession fades once again and new display standards emerge (OLED etc.) 120Hz and higher refresh rates should be fairly normal and 3D capability will be there for those who want it. With any luck it won't be thrust into our faces like this, though.

I'm starting to wonder if I want to look at size IE 27" @ 1080P over speed, looks like i'll have to decide between 27" or 120hz, cant have both unless you want to pay for it

Is there anything between 60hz and 120hz?
