After reading various forums and news site I get rather sick of they huge amount of negativity about the whole occupation of Iraq and then I saw these figures, thought Id share them here.

Since May 2003, unemployment in Iraq has fallen by nearly 50%.

170 independent newspapers are now available across Iraq.

80 independent TV stations are now broadcasting in Iraq.

Iraq has 168,000 Internet subscribers-there were just 4,000 before the war.

27,000 new businesses have opened in Iraq.

Over 3,000 schools have been rehabilitated and reopened.

8.7 million Iraqi children are enrolled in primary school.

5 million Iraqi children between the ages of 6 and 12 have been vaccinated.

There is an average of one new hospital under construction every six months.

The death rate is half of what it was under Saddam, and is among the lowest in the Middle East.

76 water treatment projects have now been completed.

33 Fire Stations have been built.

In July of 2005, Iraqi oil production hit the highest level in history.

A poll of Iraqi citizens found that 80% believe their lives will be better one year from now.

Voter turnout for the October election on the new constitution was over 60%.

The Iraqi economy is expected to grow 17% this year.

Iraqi per capita income has doubled since 2003- it is now 30% higher than it was before the war.

Inflation is one quarter of what it was before the war.

Yes I know there have been many military and civilian deaths, and before the inevitable anti war warriors come along please remember that freedom and progress isnt free.

Because it wouldn't sell as many newspapers as "IRAQ PLUNGING INTO CIVIL WAR" unfortunately.

And would probably cause people to kick off about whos funding it and if we are there would be outrage from some people.

Can we have the source?

Is that counting the US Army personnel?

And what was it before? Since Iraq's 0-14 population is around 10.6 million that 8.7 would be every single child from the age of 2.5 to 14. Are 14 year olds still counted as primary school? Does primary school start at age 2.5?

Rubbish, if the death rate halved the life expectancy would double (assuming birth rate stayed the same). It that likely given Iraq's life expectancy was over 60 already?

What's that as a fraction of those destroyed over the last few years?

Again, rubbish! See this graph of Iraqi oil production from the IEA:
iraq_oil.gif

Iraq's oil supply in July 2005 was 2mbpd, about a third lower than the highest level in history.

Given that at I know at least two points are absolute rubbish I have a low confidence on the other points.
