Well my Mums partner is a big dark rum fan. Loves stuff from Guatemala but I bought him this for Christmas and he absolutely loves it -

another vote for kraken, pretty cheap, tastes nice and enough flavour so coke doesn't totally destroy it.

If it's just going to get mixed with coke then anything will do. Kraken is okay but it's specifically a spiced rum rather than a normal dark rum such as Lambs Navy rum or OVD.

Try Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva which is Venezuelan.
I bought some at Christmas after reading reviews and it is fabulous.

Kraken cheap? It's usually £23 per 70cl whereas Bacardi oakheart goes for £19 per 1l and they're both good.

Currently on a lambs spiced rum kick though, and that goes for £14, score

My default Rum is always Lamb's Navy rum. It's cheap and cheerful but surprisingly nice.

Ron Zacapa is one of my favourites, but not as a mixer - neat only. That said the bottle I have has lasted me 3 years so far!

It is delicious but I'm not a big drinker and have it from time to time. (I drink on average once a month if that).
