One of our guys, Gareth Ogden, did some extensive testing and found some interesting results when gaming with 2gb vs 4gb. One thing a lot of people that read this tend to overlook is the minimum frame rate. If you have gamed on older gear or bought some new title that brings your system to its knees then you'll realize what he's talking about. Max frame rate is a pretty number but, playability is most affected by the minimum framerate and how long a system stays at that minimum frame rate. Who cares if your system can do 500 FPS on an intro screen. When you drop to 10 FPS during a heavy fight you get killed.

It's sorta long but a good read. http://www.corsairmemory.com/_appnotes/AN804_Gaming_Performance_Analysis.pdf

Yeah - you can always tell the difference just after quitting a game too. With 2GB, Vista used to take minutes to fully load back the desktop after Crysis or COH. With 4GB, its almost instant.

Yeah ive noticed a big difference with Vista and 4GB Ram, a lot better than the 2GB i had installed previously.

4GB is deffo a must these days, you can really tell the difference.

On a totally unrelated note, Yellowbeard, how do I get some of the PCI-E 8pin cable efforts with 2 PCI-E connectors/cable for my HX620, I e-mailed corsair support aaaaaaaages ago with a copy of my reciept and my addy asking for some and i've heard nor recieved anything :(

Hang on, isn't this thread an advert for a memory manufacturer?
No, it's an application note published by a memory manufacturer. You don't see any pricing or retail links in there anywhere. This is solely a tool for the benefit of the members of OCUK. The data applies regardless of brand so it is a nice bit of info for OCUK customers to use when buying memory. Hopefully OCUK will sell more memory and more 4gb kits to informed consumers. ;)

Very good comparison tbh Who'd have thought that 30 notes spend on RAM improves minimum frame rates as well as 10 times that amount on a graphics card!

I upped from 2 to 4 gig on my laptop for Age of Conan, only on a 32bit install so am not using it all, but I have definately noticed performance increases when messing about between games/msn.
Really seemed to tidy up Crysis performance taking it further into the "playable" category, it was the initial stuttering I couldn't stand with 2gb.
