Monoprice IEM's for cheaper than a pint = $50 IEM's

I have some very very similar dont think they are same model though, but for the £3.xx I paid they are great, got a set of comply buds on them as I love the foam feeling. Would be annoyed at paying more than £20~ for them but as far as budget IEMs cost they are great.

" I mean how can the sound from something this cheap sound stay up with the sounds of a Denon D2000 headphone but with better mids or a Ultrasone HFi-580 with better detail? How can these have a clean balanced dynamic sound? How can these have some of the best BASS I have ever heard in any headphone, both quality and quantity? How can the level of detail on these be so great symbols and high hats literally jump out from your sound spectrum and leave you thinking.. Wait a sec that high hat should not be that far from the sound stage.? But you just heard it! Little details in every recording are clearly heard on these. WTF? Right..

So without going into much detail I will challenge anyone reading this to try one.. "

these are supposedly worth 10 times their price easily

I may as well try them out if they are that affordable :)

yeah like i said i didn't need any IEM's but for £3.50 you can't go wrong, if you don't like them give them away as a stocking filler at christmas or to your kid/nephew/niece or something.

there's a range of colours, silver, black, white, etc.

i went for black.

These arrived today initial thoughts.

The good:

Wow for the money they are very very good sound quality wise, pretty amazing considering their price.

The bad:

any movements or any impact with the wire no matter how little transfers up into the headphones making them unusable unless you stay perfectly still.

I wonder if anyone knows how to fix this issue? Could I simply wrap them in insulation tape?

Apparently the white and pink versions use a rubber cable (less or no microphonics) the silver and black use a corded cabe (crazy microphonics).

Do you think using sellotape or insulation tape and just wrapping the whole corded cable would cure the microphonic issue?

I assume you're running them over the ear? That normally sorts out a good deal of microphonics. Failing that, yeah, some thicker insulation tape or a recable - which would better their sound and still keep them fairly affordable.

Could you drop me a pm for a source? Very tempted to have a look at these - something more 'throw-away' for mtbing/skiing kinda thing.

Cheers dude! Bass-Enhanced version? Struggling to find model numbers to cross-reference :(

But yeah, give over-ear a go, I always run IEMs over-ear, regardless of whether or not they have microphonics as its more secure (and ofc reduces the microphonics if it is an issue with those cables).

Thanks man, managed to figure out which was which in terms of model number. Just sent my order through, I'll drop a mini-review in here when I get them!

I'm not sure what I'm not getting here... they sound like £4 headphones to me, the Samsung IEMs I got with my Galaxy S4 sound far fuller to me, the Monoprice have a distinct lack of bass considering they are labelled as bass enhanced.
The rubber gromits are so thin they need modding to make them work properly and a recable is needed if you want the black set so you might as well have bought the JVC HAFX1Xs and be done with.

They might need some burning in first? I bought some too just to see what they sound like.

For the guys that do get them to try out..Burn them in for a solid 24 hours.. These don't require a huge burn in to start enjoying but the 24 hours is a requirement. If you hear any type of pop or crackle that is the driver flexing so no worries. Burn away my friends!!

That was from the first post in the head fi thread

I did read the reviews, that was what lead me to pick up a pair whilst I was ordering other stuff on amazon.
I compared them to a pair of samsung freebies that come with a phone that have had zero burn in time and the freebies still sound better.
I will give them a burn in whilst I'm in work though, cheers.

I ordered a pair of white ones. I found that I had to go up a size on the tips to get a good seal.

Initial thoughts are that they're decent but not mind blowing. They obviously punch well above the ~£4 I paid for them. I'm going to start a 24 hour burn in tonight to see if it changes it.

I agree with Mr Orange. Pre burn in I'd say they're on par with at least £15-£20 sets. The mids and highs are a little harsh at the moment. Lets see how they sound after a burn in.
