Most Wanted Entertainment announces Nexus 2, an upcoming sequel to Nexus: The Jupiter Incident, their space-based tactical real-time strategy game. The original Nexus was was released in May 2005, and the following year what seemed to be a teaser for a sequel popped up, but no more has been heard of this since. "We re-launched the original Nexus on Steam a while ago, and even now we see a substantial amount of new players buying the game each month", says MWE owner Mike Horneman. "We have a very vocal fan base, and know that there's a large number of people out there who would love to see a sequel made." The game is being self-funded by Most Wanted Entertainment with the assistance of crowdsourced financing through GamesPlant, and while they don't share any details about the game at this point, they do outline how the financial part of this will work:

Hungarian game developer Most Wanted Entertainment have announced plans for a self-developed sequel to their highly-rated space RTS Nexus: The Jupiter Incident, with the company partnering dedicated crowdfunding site GamesPlant to supplement their own financing.

"Nexus 2 is a very special project for the company", said studio owner Mike Horneman. "Nexus was our first game, and we still have many of the original team-members on board, with full plans in place for what we'd do for a sequel". Launched in 2004, the game was highly acclaimed as one of the best spaceship battle games ever made, and continues to attract fans even to this day.

"We re-launched the original Nexus on Steam a while ago, and even now we see a substantial amount of new players buying the game each month", said Horneman. "We have a very vocal fan base, and know that there's a large number of people out there who would love to see a sequel made". MWE are looking to finance the project with a mixture of its own funds supported by crowdfunding.

"We're happy to put a large chunk of our own resources into making Nexus 2", said Horneman, "but realistically we cannot fund the whole project ourselves. So, with GamesPlant, we can offer all our fans out there a chance to be part of the Nexus 2 project. The more you pledge, the more you will benefit; from digital pre-orders, through special boxed editions and your name included in the game, right up to profitsharing; everyone can be a part of this."

The GamesPlant site allows users to "pledge" funds to projects, with the money only actually deducted if the project meets its start criteria. If Most Wanted's Nexus 2 plan succeeds, it will be the largest game ever started on the site.

Was actually looking at the first one a few days ago, is it worth playing?, one of them under the radar games that slipped me by.

I whant so bad, i have Nexus sitting on my desk right now, tried to install it last week, but keep getting invalid key error . Or im getting my 'O' and '0' mixed up again.

HOLY MOLY!!!

To quote herbal essences: YES YES YES!

Nexus 1 was a great game, so much depth to it. Good to see this being developed on.

Cobrax i've got a key you can try heh, won't be able to work online but atleast you can play your retail ... you need to set up your trust for email

Looks rather good, for some strange reason I now have the urge to watch the Battlestar Galactica series :p

Neil79, thanks for the offer, but i got it working now. Yay. I know that its going to be a long day in work tomorrow just sitting around waiting, so Nexus on the laptop it is.

Coincidentally, i was looking at the first game on Steam yesterday. I don't really know anything about it, but it looks like my kind of thing. Would anyone recommend it? What is gameplay like?

Cheers

I tried the original several times but crawled to halt when I literally could no longer kill enemy ships, quite early on too. Online walkthroughs didn't help much, it just felt like weapons hardly did any damage.

From memory thats pretty much what happened. The first few missions where great after that difficulty seemed to jump.

This is fantastic news!

I am currently playing through N:TJI for the first time. I can't believe I let this gem slip under my gaming radar! I think I played the demo when it was known as Imperium Galactica III and obviously lost track of it after the legal dispute / name change.

Anyway it’s a great game! Also really enjoying the Babylon 5 and Battlestar Galactica mods! The PC space scene is quite sparse at the moment so if you missed this one or perhaps didn’t get into it, try giving it another go! Don’t forget to download the skirmisher tool too… hours of fun!

Oh and I hope they have an updated damage engine for the Nexus 2... I would love to see large ships break apart as they explode, something along the lines of Starlancer and Freespace 2!
