NTL: Anyone been upgraded to 4MB Broadband yet?

They are advertising it on their website however I don't think I have been upgraded yet. I'm still getting 230k/s max on my downloads and think that 4MB would offer speeds of almost 500k/s.

I didn't even know that the 2MB version was being upgraded to 4MB. Does anyone else know if they have been upgraded or not yet?

I'm on BY 4mb and during the day am lucky to see speeds of 230kb/s. The only time I get true 4MB speeds is the middle of the night.

Yeah, the NTL download speeds are quite good actually.

I'll try it tonight and see if it is any faster.

The only thing that is cheesing me off at the moment is the fact that NTL have been disconnecting and cutting me off a lot over the past few days. It seems to happen mostly whenever I am downloading demos on xbox live and downloading things on the internet at the same time. Perhaps I am asking too much of my connection?

Is EVERYONE who is on 2Mb getting upgraded?

Because we only upgraded up to 2Mb a couple of weeks ago, so I wonder if we'll be put onto 4Mb.

I'm pretty sure that everyone on the 2MB service has or is going to be upgraded to the 4MB service completely free of charge which is great.

No;

1mb > 2mb (£18 month)
2mb > 4mb (£25 month)

1mb is staying the same AFAIK, and as he is already on 2mb he will be upgraded to 4mb for free like everyone else.

So, has anyone on NTL seen the upgrade yet?

Support told me the upgrades have already been done, but I've rebooted my modem numerous times and am still seeing a 2mb downstream rating.

I don't think NTL have got round to upgrading everyone yet even though when you ring them up they say they have.

if you go to adslguide.org and run a speed test you will see whether or not you have been upgraded. My download speed is registering at 1.7MB/s and upload at 185KB/S

Surely it's better to login to the modem and check the downstream speed as this is derived direct from the config file that NTL push down to you.

How can I log into the NTL modem?

I am really starting to lose my patience with NTL at the minute. I am losing my connection up to 10 times a day and it seems to happen mostly whenever I am putting stress on my connection with several downloads going at the same time. A simple turning off, waiting 10 seconds and then on again seems to fix it which means that it's not a problem with my linksys router. Do you think I should phone NTL and ask them why on earth I am getting kicked off?!

Rant over.

Goto http://192.168.100.1

Then login with user=root, pass=root.

Then click on "operation config" and view the maximum downstream data rate.

2048000 = 2Mb.
thanks, ill try that now

Are they not upgrading the 1MB one :(

I don't think so... NTL are still advertising the £17.99 package as 1MB. the £24.99 package is the only one that is changing as far as I know from 2MB to 4MB.

Network Access : Allowed
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 2048000
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 200000
Maximum Upstream Channel Burst : 1600
Maximum Number of CPEs : 1

EDIT - nm was looking at the wrong one

Yup, you're still on 2Mbps..
Thanks Tolien. That's what I thought.

I don't know what it is... but browsing the internet for me is just crazy speeds especially over the last half hour. It's lightening quick for me at the moment. I just downloaded the 2.71 firmware upgrade for the PSP and even it's browser is giving me crazily fast load times.

I thought that I was still on 2MB as that's what ADSLguide.org were telling me. but I just needed someone who knows about these things to confirm it for me.

I wonder when I'll be upgraded

Thanks again Tolien.

I'm not sure that you can tell from that data. Did you go to "operation configuration"? I didn't get data like yours.
