The 14" model is perfect for someone who wants something very lightweight, its 14" screen runs at 1366x768 resolution which is fine for web browising, emails, office work and this model even plays games OK due to the lower resolution screen placing less demand for graphical task so even a game like GRID 2 is playable with low/medium details.

OcUK recommends the HD 8970M models as they represent the best value for money as the 8970M outperforms the GTX 770M by quite a margin and comes very close to the GTX 780M though is not as fast, so if you do want the best the GTX 780M is the way to go.

Most of you are probably wondering why is the NVIDIA unit so much more expensive, well first reason is the obvious one, which is that the GTX 780M's are a lot more expensive than the AMD HD 8970M's, but the not so easy to spot reason is because the NVIDIA powered laptop uses a 120Hz screen with 3D Vision and also comes with 3D Vision glasses. So you get improved fluidity of a 120Hz screen and the ability to game in 3D. Infact the 780M SLi laptop is so powerful it has no issue playing games on a 30" monitor at 2560x1600 or running NVIDIA surround, it truly is a powerhouse!
So I see their are options - what should I select?
All our laptops are customisable by you the customer, you specify it and we shall build your dream laptop. Of course these options can be confusing to some, so to help you understand the choices better here is an explanation of them and our recommendations:-
Processor
Even the entry level Haswell processor - the 4700MQ is so powerful with 4 cores and hyperthreading, giving a total of 8 threads, this is actually our recommendation as it has more than enough power for the very latest games and most demanding task. Of course should you feel the need we can build your laptop with an Extreme Processor, but in reality it will not give much more performance in games when gaming at 1920x1080 or higher resolutions as this depends mainly on the GPU being used.
Memory
We only build our laptops with Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz SODIMM memory which delivers excellent performance, so all you need to decide upon is the quantity of memory you require. By default they come with 4GB of RAM which is setup as single channel, for the most part 4GB of memory is enough, but we recommend 8GB of RAM. This way there is slim chance you will run short of memory plus you get the small performance boost of dual channel mode. Of course if your doing photography you can even select 16GB of memory and should you need to a later date most of our laptops are upgradable too 32GB.
Primary Drive
For the primary drive, or otherwise known as the boot drive, we highly recommend an SSD for many reasons. SSD's have a 0.1ms random access time, which is over 100x faster than your fastest hard drives resulting in much faster loading times, for example from a cold boot the OS can load as quickly as sub 10s and browsing images or loading guys is vastly quicker. Of course SSD's have much faster read/write times too along with much lower power usage so they help to extend battery life. As such we highly recommend a 60GB/120GB SSD as the primary/OS drive.
Secondary Drive
If your laptop has the option of taking a secondary drive, you can either choose not to have a secondary drive or you can install another SSD or a larger mechanical SSHD from Seagate. SSHD or otherwise known as Hybrids try to the mix traditional technology of a HDD along with SSD, you get the best of both worlds essentially, near SSD performance, but the capacity of a HDD. We'd recommend a 500GB-1TB SSHD as the secondary drive.
Optical Drive
If your laptop has this option you can select a DVD-RW which will allow you to install applications, play music CD's or even create your own music CD's or backup data. Alternatively you can select a Blu-ray drive so you can watch the latest movies in Blu-ray quality.
WiFi Options

We typically aim to get your laptop to you within 5 workings days, of course this can be longer in extremely busy times like Christmas. As such we offer a Fastrack service for a small premium where you can essentially skip the queue and get your laptop within 48hrs or even 24hrs as long as you order before 10am on the basis everything is in stock and its not a laptop on pre-order. So if you need that laptop urgently then use the Fastrack service or buy one of our pre-built Express laptops.
Operating System
We highly recommend you choose and operating system as we shall install the O.S. along with all the latest drivers and ensure everything is working perfectly. If you don't choose an O.S. then you are responsible for installing the operating system and all drivers yourself.

OcUK recommends the HD 8970M models as they represent the best value for money as the 8970M outperforms the GTX 770M by quite a margin and comes very close to the GTX 780M though is not as fast, so if you do want the best the GTX 780M is the way to go.

Most of you are probably wondering why is the NVIDIA unit so much more expensive, well first reason is the obvious one, which is that the GTX 780M's are a lot more expensive than the AMD HD 8970M's, but the not so easy to spot reason is because the NVIDIA powered laptop uses a 120Hz screen with 3D Vision and also comes with 3D Vision glasses. So you get improved fluidity of a 120Hz screen and the ability to game in 3D. Infact the 780M SLi laptop is so powerful it has no issue playing games on a 30" monitor at 2560x1600 or running NVIDIA surround, it truly is a powerhouse!
So I see their are options - what should I select?
All our laptops are customisable by you the customer, you specify it and we shall build your dream laptop. Of course these options can be confusing to some, so to help you understand the choices better here is an explanation of them and our recommendations:-
Processor
Even the entry level Haswell processor - the 4700MQ is so powerful with 4 cores and hyperthreading, giving a total of 8 threads, this is actually our recommendation as it has more than enough power for the very latest games and most demanding task. Of course should you feel the need we can build your laptop with an Extreme Processor, but in reality it will not give much more performance in games when gaming at 1920x1080 or higher resolutions as this depends mainly on the GPU being used.
Memory
We only build our laptops with Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz SODIMM memory which delivers excellent performance, so all you need to decide upon is the quantity of memory you require. By default they come with 4GB of RAM which is setup as single channel, for the most part 4GB of memory is enough, but we recommend 8GB of RAM. This way there is slim chance you will run short of memory plus you get the small performance boost of dual channel mode. Of course if your doing photography you can even select 16GB of memory and should you need to a later date most of our laptops are upgradable too 32GB.
Primary Drive
For the primary drive, or otherwise known as the boot drive, we highly recommend an SSD for many reasons. SSD's have a 0.1ms random access time, which is over 100x faster than your fastest hard drives resulting in much faster loading times, for example from a cold boot the OS can load as quickly as sub 10s and browsing images or loading guys is vastly quicker. Of course SSD's have much faster read/write times too along with much lower power usage so they help to extend battery life. As such we highly recommend a 60GB/120GB SSD as the primary/OS drive.
Secondary Drive
If your laptop has the option of taking a secondary drive, you can either choose not to have a secondary drive or you can install another SSD or a larger mechanical SSHD from Seagate. SSHD or otherwise known as Hybrids try to the mix traditional technology of a HDD along with SSD, you get the best of both worlds essentially, near SSD performance, but the capacity of a HDD. We'd recommend a 500GB-1TB SSHD as the secondary drive.
Optical Drive
If your laptop has this option you can select a DVD-RW which will allow you to install applications, play music CD's or even create your own music CD's or backup data. Alternatively you can select a Blu-ray drive so you can watch the latest movies in Blu-ray quality.
WiFi Options
Our OcUK Custom Laptops come with a plethora of high end WiFi options. These options include a host of Centrino certified Intel PCIe cards that feature Wireless N, Bluetooth and unparalleled compatibility with intel chipsets.

Build Options - Fastrack Service
We typically aim to get your laptop to you within 5 workings days, of course this can be longer in extremely busy times like Christmas. As such we offer a Fastrack service for a small premium where you can essentially skip the queue and get your laptop within 48hrs or even 24hrs as long as you order before 10am on the basis everything is in stock and its not a laptop on pre-order. So if you need that laptop urgently then use the Fastrack service or buy one of our pre-built Express laptops.
Operating System
We highly recommend you choose and operating system as we shall install the O.S. along with all the latest drivers and ensure everything is working perfectly. If you don't choose an O.S. then you are responsible for installing the operating system and all drivers yourself.
