Im not sure how it does for the core 2 duo peeps among us

but using this board with a Kentsfield gives a big droop in voltage
eg i set it to 1.475v and the true vcore is 1.4v

a massive difference if you ask me

anyways after browsing around and finding the actual mods
i thought id give it a try with a pencil :D (looks doable) and it works.

now set 1.475 = actual 1.472

all i did was use a pencil accross the resistor, a couple of sweeps
and saw the vcore slowly rise, a few more swipes and the droop is now

after mod 0.003v

before mod 0.075v

(i wouldnt try it on the fly, but when its off do the swipes and then check in bios)

now vcore is set as 1.40v and is 1.39X actual (i left it as that)

... has reduced temps 2 degrees which i wasnt expecting, but is a bonus :D

anyways. i thought id share!

heh thanks, i went down to the local and picked up a soldering ion and a few pots, but i chickened out when i got home :p

still going to do the vmch mod to get it up from 1.65 to around 1.85

i want 500fsb from boot

swipes of the pencil like when your drawing a line, not sure what "rating" it is,
as long as its got some lead in, not those plastic types of leads lol

id say it took about 15 swipes in all to get it from 1.4 to 1.472
check to see what sort of droop your processor is getting and swipe accordingly.

id do it in 3 swipes at a time, check and do it again etc...

yes its really easy to do!

.... if you over swipe you can rub off

ok then, will have a bash ;)

I tried this yesterday but couldn't eliminate the droop, (I still had about 0.025v) Three questions:

1. What type of pencil works best? I was using a 2B.

2: I'm using a P4, will this affect it?

3: Is it supposed to make the start-up screens flash? (graphics post to the Windows loading screen.. Welcome screen and windows are fine.)

prob a stupid question, but i got one of those conductive silver pens for another mod - i presume this would work just as well (probably with less swipes :D ) ??

well you can vary the resistance with a the pencil, not sure how you can with paint :)

1) not sure, i used the 1st i found

2) the processor should nt make any difference, there may be little droop with a p4 comparing to a duo / quadro's

3) not sure about that, although it shouldnt, increasing the vcore doesnt normally

I've done it!!!

1.5675V BIOS it was:
Before: 1.505V load - 1.523V Idle
After: 1.545V load - 1.360V Idle.

1.5375V BIOS it is:
1.516V load - 1.520V Idle.

1.5250V BIOS it is:
1.520V load - 1.520V Idle.

1.5175V BIOS it is:
1.5150V load - 1.5150V Idle.

W00t :D

Also found out my E6600 IHS is flat and so is my TT120.

Win win :D

I'm kinda scared to try this out.

What risks are there and what precautions should I take?

I'm thinking about putting some scotch tape around the other resistors just incase some lead spreads around the mobo.

It's perfectly safe. I did it no problems and I'm an idiot.
Look at his sig - I think this is concrete evidence it is idiot-proof :D.
