$35 computer for £1000+ WTF !!

Rarity

Nothing different to import Play Stations before they are released here and so on.

Something is essentially worth what someone will pay for it, as silly as it seems sometimes.

£1361

Plenty of bids for them already, still 6 days to go. Wonder how much they'll finally go for?

Why would they.......

The video that has reasons for people buying it is shaky at best.. Buying them 'to get one of the first'

eh...Surely you'd save the what's surely going to amount to £2000+ and just get the $35 one.

I think he was implying there could be market potential in developing it or on it. You get a headstart.

I'm pretty sure I read about the first ones raising money for Charity and other charities running along with this, such as buy 1 give 1. It's intended for education.

It's a 100% charity auction, so the item makes littel difference. They aren't paying for the item, they are donating to charity.

Still no where near the 107k for Eddie Jordans sick inducing shirt for charity.

I don't think the rarity has much to do with the prices at all.

It's partly down to charity/fund raising (i.e people are donating more than buying) and also the fact they're getting one of the ten development prototypes, the sort of thing that could become a piece of history if these things really take off in a big way. Some people will pay a lot of money to own things like that.

If you think people are paying over a grand just to have a $35 circuit board a month before anyone else, you are hugely naive.

But surely they'd be encouraging competitors? Even charities need to sell their products - however cheap they are, for funding. Not many get it ALL directly from donations.

And when he talked about the buy one give one scheme he was very vague; we 'may' implement.

a charity where 100% goes to research into computer science of raspberry pi's bank account lol. i support charity but this aint really a proper charity, its a charity where all proceeds go to THEM. surely theyl make enough money to go towards "research" when the things go on proper sale.

So cancer charities aren't charities
Hospital charities aren't charity
So on and so forth.

no i support charities as a whole 1000000000% believe me. i just get the impression this is only going to better tham as a company financially. if this is going towards computer science as a whole. ie. supercomputers finding cures to diseases then i am all ears. dont get me wrong. that i am for.

It's a not for profit foundation, geared towards improving computer education.
