Anybody seen the rumours for this year? Rage Against the Machine are strongly rumoured on lots of websites, others include Metallica, Slipknot, Green Day etc.

How close are the rumours around this time to the actual line-up? And when do the acts actually get announced normally? If these are true then I would go to this rather than Download this year.

I doubt very much Leeds/Reading is going to go back to 'metal'. Gone are the days of Slipknot/Metallica being there.

Just an indie fest now :(

The way Rage have been touring they must be coming over here at some point, I'm guessing thats why they're a rumour. I'd agree with the this v download decision, and it might mean some of my more indie mates come along too.

PK!

Dang, probably no Muse at Reading then. Still hotly tipped for T in the Park, guess we'll find out on friday. (Rage randomly rumoured for T as well, I suppose they did play there before)

Rage are "to be confirmed" on efestivals which is fairly reliable, Metallica are also strongly rumoured alongside the killers, which does fit with melvin benns statement that all 3 headliners are to be american.

It does seems like the festival is returning to its routes of metal and rock ^_^. They have also removed all carling branding from the festival making it less commercialised which is a good thing!

Don't get your hopes up, Rage are always strongly rumoured :p

I will be annoyed if they do play though.. decided to go to Benicassim this year :p

There not running the bars this year either im just hoping they dont bring in some pap like carlsberg that tastes terrible at anything above ice cold :(

Im 50/50 on going this year. The security guards really ruined everything last year, constantly threatening to kick us out for many different reasons, one of them even started on a mate of mine when we asked to see their manager (which we never got to do).

We were told to:
- Take our gazeebo down, despite the fact no one in the camp was told to
- Put our fire out, despite the fact the camp opposite us had a small bonfire going, we complied with the rules
- Present our wristbands once, sometimes twice a day
and heres the kicker:
- Take down our tents as they were a fire hazard. Yep, one security guard actually said that to us.

Now, we aren't a rude bunch but we know when we are being victimised. There was this one little Scottish guy, kept coming over and having a go at us, he even threw water over us when we asked why he put our fire out, not the greatest thing on a cold night. Whenever we questioned his decisions he went away, and came back with more people. One of them was actually alright though and talked to us about what was going on. The funniest part is that he agreed with us.

We also asked the security guards name so that we could lodge a complaint against him, to which he replied "James Bond mate, **** off". And all this stemmed from most of the security guards not being told how to do their job.

They oversold tickets, so the campsites were full to the brim, we usually have a group of about 20 people camping together and although in '06 we managed it perfectly in '07 we were jumbled about the place. The thing that really annoyed me was that around 15% of the campers left on Saturday night after seeing the Chilis play. Why didn't they buy a day ticket?

As for the music, the Chilis were terrible imo, didn't even treat it like a festival gig. They just played crap for about 30 mins, at which time I got bored and went off to see Hot Hot Heat play. They were one of the few bands worth the ticket money that weekend.

Really made it an unpleasant weekend last year, though I want to go again just because when inside the arena its so awesome.

Some of the security were awful last year, we were in purple field by the bin drummers and twice I ended up intervening to stop the security picking a fight with 40 people, and getting their heads kicked in... (they were all scottish, no idea why, but I just turned up my accent and talked them out of getting battered) Not sure why I bothered, I just didn't want to see blood on my tent, but their attitude was ridiculous, like they were the indesctructible masters of the field... But as soon as people stopped being intimidated by them they were deep in trouble, and it kept on happening. Not clever.

Still, we had another brilliant year, never had a bad one at Reading. The gazebos thing was supposed to be to make more space in the campsites with some of the fields closed, but it didn't work out at all. At best, they got people to take them down once they were up, but the space was already taken...

Wonder if the John Virgo Speak His Name Tent will be back :D

That sucks mate, the security there are ****, the stewards are much more helpful. The security team are always northerners for some reason and can be pain in the ass, they confiscated about £60 of green off someone in our camp, they blatantly aren't allowed to do that but if you argue they kick you out.

Just ignore security and hope they don't victimise you again, as you say it's great once you're in the festival.

The line up will have to be something special for me to go this year. The weather made it last year, the music wasn't fantastic. As said before the Chili's were such a waste of space, absolutely stunk, even Razorlight outshone them for me and that says something :(

The chilis were dire... I went and saw Unkle instead on a total roll of the dice, and they were fantastic, so thank you chili peppers! Also thanks due to Oasis, another dreadful headliner who inspired me to go off and see a random band on another stage, that time it was Muse...

I'm deciding between download or reading this year as I'm hoping to go to at least A festival this year.

Downloads line up is looking pretty carp atm with some really awful headlines and since RATM and Metallica are two bands I want to see in my lifetime I think reading may clinch the win if they get confirmed.

I just hope the security won't be as bad this year as you are saying it was last year

Gonna wait for the line up to decide whether I go this year. Might just end up getting a day ticket for the best day I want to go.

There are reports about how bad the security are every year. Chance are though you won't interact with the at all, you always hear the horror stories never the people that didn't have a problem.
