Gutted for Gamerscore cheats

I wanted to follow up and let you know where we are on the post I made a few months ago on Gamesave Tampering. Today we took action on some of the accounts we have identified as the most serious offenders who have violated the Xbox LIVE Terms of Use by tampering with their Gamerscore and Achievements.

The steps today takes the form of the following:

• Resetting the entire Gamerscore for an account to zero
• The account will be unable to regain all previously obtained achievements and Gamerscore, however, the players will have the ability to gain future Achievements by earning them fairly, like the majority of the Xbox LIVE community does.
• The account will be clearly labeled as a cheater for the community to view on xbox.com. You can see an example here. In dash, the personal view of the gamercard will be labeled as well.

Xbox LIVE remains committed to keeping the service free of cheating in order to maintain a fair and level playing field for everyone.

Heheh, funny eh? Not that I think anyone who did this kind of cheating will be bothered in the slightest to be honest.

Just had a quick browse down my friends list and am relived to see no one on it has been reset. Although I think Wyrdo and Soulja should be looked at a bit more carefully...

i'm amazed that people even bother to cheat, it's not like they really gain anything.

As I recall people here used to swap gamesaves and trawl those gamerscore sites to do this when the 360 was new and they were obsessed with high gamerscores (some still are!).

Sadly like the banning of modded consoles, this will be another half way step by Microsoft, in that their method of identifying the cheats/modders is not perfect so you will find some banned who shouldn't be and vice versa, and general outcry.

I really dont get this whole "achievements" thing....you do stuff so your score goes up, and what do you get? Nothing, just a bigger epeen. Why does anyone care? Its not like in COD4 where going up a rank gets you new weapons etc, you literally get nothing! And the fact Xbox fanboys use it as a selling point for the Xbox is beyond me!

But anyways, getting the better of cheaters is always good

I hope they make sure that their absolutely correct before they start labelling people's accounts as 'cheats' because if they start getting this wrong there's going to be a massive outcry...

I think I'd rather glitch with a save account than get 20,000 points on COD3 though

excellent news that they are doing something about it however will be interesting to see if they get any identifications wrong and ban innocent people

When used correctly I think achievements can add a completely new layer to games that people would never normally think of. I won't go off on one about it as it's not the thread for it, but just because you don't like it/understand it it doesn't mean it's not a selling point for the console.

I don't really get this, I didnt think it was possible to swap save games etc? So what is classed as cheating, surely not renting easy games like Avatar and getting all 1000 point in 2 minutes or however long it takes? I've taken my hard drive to a friends house and played on his xbox so I can get co-op achievements on GH3, obviously only on my profile. Can someone exlpain?

I quite enjoy the achievements. It does add extra playability to games.

i believe it's things such as save game hacking where people are getting achievements that are actually glitched and not possible to get.

My understanding is also that there are ways of swapping save games etc but not sure how widespread it is

I think achievements are brilliant as they do add an extra dimension to games, it actually makes me want to complete a game rather than just play it for a few hours and never go back to it like many of my old console games.
