at the moment i have a 5870 watercooled
i have added a second 5870 to try out crossfire. not too bad

seen a good increase in most of my games. i get a few niggles with driver updates etc but hey, thats crossfire right?

at the moment i am in two minds as to what i should do.

i use all manner of hardware at work so am used to the performance of the alternative cards,

i am set on a GTX 480 at the moment, its not much better than a 5870 but enough to warrant a change.

vote in the poll and by all means give your reasons. it might help me make up my mind

please dont turn this into an argument and keep the thread on track

thanks rjk
:)

I voted for the 480 because you'll water cool it. They come into their own like that as you'll be able to clock it to the max and the performance scales really well on them when clocked.

thats an interesting viewpoint wolvers

i have only used them under air at the moment where the noise and heat puts me off

do you have any links or anything that back up your opinion as i would be interested in investigating further

i would say ditch the 5870's and get a 480 (even tho i bought a 5850 last friday)

My reasons altho the 5870 and 480 are pretty much on par with each other the 480's tessalation peformance is far superior so if you wanting to max out all the latest and greatest games then your all set. And i'm pretty sure you could water cool it too

get rid of the ATI.

catalyst drivers 10.5 and 10.6 have broken v-sync for me and now I'm getting visual tearing all over the place. Would love a reliable nvidia card again.

Ati is perfectly reliable your just what i call unlucky i have had zero problems with my 4 ati's that i've owned i've also had zero driver issues

back on track exactly how much do you have to spend RJK

I'd keep the 5870s personally, as I would happily take Crossfire niggles over the awful nVidia drivers.

keep the 5870 and sell the other, but thats just cos im happy running just 1 card and dont suffer with driver issues becouse of that reason.

Where's the option ''keep both as it is'' ? Don't see the point in WC-ing the second.

Otherwise, just watercool the second is theb est from the 3.

Not a fan of dual GPU setups, sell both 5870's and get a 480, watercool that sucker and clock it upwards to 900Mhz and you're laughing.

Keep both, it's a nice setup you got there. You might decide to go eyefinity, or games might become more GPU demanding in the future. Although the 480 performs better, in a few games the difference between it and a 5870 is hardly noticeable. Plus, might be just me, but damn I love seeing cards in crossfire watercooled ;) It looks much better then a single cooled card.
