Depending on which route I do down P55 or x58 (still undecided) I’m thinking about building a system based on the EVGA P55 *** Intel P55 or x58 EVGA Classified. Now is it worth me waiting for USB3/SATA3 motherboards to come out in mass? Or just build my new system now?

Cheers

Thanks for the kind words GHarris. :)

The Rampage III is only planned to be ATX at the moment and I dont know of a GENE version at the moment (It could well happen, but it's not on the roadmap atm). It'll be X58 and if what I've been told is true, come with both USB 3.0 and SATA6.

USB 3.0 and SATA6 aren't used by a great deal of things right now, but if you're planning on keeping the PC for a few years it's a good investment (In my opinion) to plan for SATA6 based SSD's or USB 3.0 HDD caddies and the likes.

On ASUS boards, the P7P55D-E series all come with USB 3.0 and SATA6 (Note: the -E) but if you've bought an earlier P7P55 motherboard, there's a PCI-E riser card available for around £30 to give you this added functionality - There's a good article in this months Custom PC about USB 3.0 / SATA6 and our riser card that might help.

Thanks for that VK, I have indeed read that article, thats what got me thinking :-) I think as soon as a good USB3/SATA3 board comes out I'll get it. I'm not keen on the PCI-E riser cards they're just not as fast as the onboard solution. I'll hold tight a bit longer...i'm waiting for my 5870 Vapor X anyways.
