Should a new law be passed about pets around children?

Hi there, I usually like to post daft things on here for a laugh but I dont know if you saw the news today but I have something serious to discuss (for once) and that is pets around children.

The reason I bring this up is because I feel really strongly about this subject, at the end of the day babies and children, perhaps some adults aswell are at risk, and there's already been deaths from dogs as you might already know from watching the news.

Anyway, my point is, I honestly believe, without a doubt in my mind, that there should be a new law passed, and its very simple! "NO PETS AROUND CHILDREN!!" especially dogs!

To me, its that simple!, am I right or what??? People shouldnt have dogs especially around kids untill they're at a certain age, I dont know what that age is, maybe 10, maybe 15, I dont know, and I dont care, at the end of the day why are babies and kids being killed needlessly when all we have to do is keep them out of harms way?????

I really dont see how I can be wrong about this?????

When I have kids I wont get a dog untill they're older, the fact is we cant let babies be mauled to death by a dog, we just cant.

We either stop this, or the babies and kids keep dying, theres no argument.

I already discussed this with my friend and he said "well I had a dog when I was younger and it used to sleep with me and never hurt me"............and he also said "yeah but thats just a freak accident"......

COME OFF IT! HOW MANY BABIES AND KIDS HAVE TO DIE BEFORE WE SAY NO MORE!

THIS IS SERIOUS!

I can imagine people reading my post and laughing at how I am typing this post, but I mean what am saying, you cant joke about this, this is babies and kids man, just turn on the news and see for yourself, and its happening all the time!

I just think its a simple thing we can fix, the goverment should make it a law, and any pearents found owning a dog next to a child under a certain age (which they can decide, like 10 or 15 as stated earlier) should then go to jail, or something like that, coz at the end of the day, its just wrong.

There should be a no stupid people law, because it's stupid people leaving kids around dogs that result in deaths. it's not the dogs' fault, it's the owners'.

Do you understand that, or WOULD IT BE BETTER PUT IF I WROTE IT IN BLOCK CAPITALS?

No. The parents are responsible for it and if something happens they should be punished for it. Too many laws already about peoples personal freedom, give people some responsibility back rather than making laws against everything.
Also, why do you think 15 year olds should not be around dogs? They can think you know, I can easily remember myself being 15 and knowing not to **** off a dog or he might bite...

Anyways, do you know how many people with children have dogs ? I wouldn't let isolated incidents ruin the joy's of having pets and kids it for thousands of people and children. It's their own fault if their kid gets wounded or killed by the dog somehow, should have thought more like people and less like an ape.

How are you expecting this to be enforced? Cops coming over and checking on every household for pets ? A snitch line being set up so neighbors can rat each other out ?

I've read your comments and I get what your saying but am just trying to find a solution to a pretty horrific problem...

You're joking... Right?...

This.

But also we had several dogs throughout my life (yeah the whole 17 years of it) i loved my dog when i was a young kid and still love my two dogs now as 17 year old.
Personally i think some sort of pet be a great thing for child development.

But also deaths from pet animals are often so hyped by the media that it becomea ridiculous.
It is just that thousands of people are dying in the UK yet nothing about them is being reported by the news.

So essentially i think it would be abit silly.

There are worse problems imo, it's just a parenting problem not mine. The costs for enforcing this would be ridiculous if it'd truly exist, personally, I don't want to pay a penny ( never had pets anyway) because someone with the IQ of a monkey got his own son killed, none of my business, leave me alone is what I'd say tbh. I have nothing to do with dogs or cats... But being a liberal, I believe in personal freedom rather than the big daddy government looking over my shoulder.

As the headlesschicken said, I'm 100% sure there are many more children killed by people than by dogs. Focus on that instead.

The horrific problem that I see is your dilemma. Well, actually, a your dilemma. Here is where I go to block capitals for your benefit.

LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "YOUR" AND "YOU'RE"

It was tragic news, but your post reads like a knee jerk reaction which wouldn't really solve the problem and would just create extra work. It was an unfortunate one off occurrence. Legislating against it would not achieve anything IMO.

Accidents happen it's an unfortunate fact of life. Thousands of people die in car crashes every year. Should we make driving illegal? It could cut death rates drastically.

I dunno when I was doing d of e, a massive dog started trying to attack us, we handled it ok.

I was quite young at the time.

I dont know, well I've ready all your comments and I guess what your saying is its not the dogs fault its the pearents, I can understand and agree with that but just saying that isnt going to stop it from happening is it? That kinda sounds like "well, yeh this happens, but, nothings going to change it" and thats where I think differently, because I just think if we did pass a law, then maybe we could get rid of the problem? In my warped mind this really doesnt seem that hard to do? Or is it? I dont know? I guess maybe I thought if I posted here and enough people agreed I would try to get the message accross to the country, and maybe I could start with the mayor and then maybe the prime-minister? (seriously).

Blah blah

Get over yourself.
The responsibility lies with the human / adult who is looking after them.
Should children be prosecuted for killing dogs? Dogs killed by children riding mini-motorbikes Who should go to jail here? The parents? The kids? Well the dogs don't need killing do they, they're already dead!

Seriously, it takes responsibility and sensibilty where children and animals (not just dogs) are involved.

It is the "responsible" adult who should be charged in a situation like this and the dogs left be.

Ok well I guess thats 15 people against this law, and just me for it, so I guess this will never happen then, but I still feel the same way to tell you the truth, I dont think saying its the adults fault and not the dogs fault is going to stop this from happening. Atleast my way perhaps we could have stopped the deaths all together, or atleast thats the way I saw it.

How do you work that out? The animal should be under the control of a responsible person at all times. If you can't be repsonsible and control an animal namely a dog, what on earth are you doing looking after a child?

Are you for real?

We live in enough of a nanny state without the goverment telling me I cant have a pet because I have a child! For goodness sake open your eyes.

If you are hell bent on yet another piece of useless, expenisive and disgusting legislation then go legislate against those who will not give the time an animal deserves in care, and training, to make it a decent and rewarding addition to any family.

And yes, at the end of the day its an animal... and a carnivorous one at that. But aren't humans? Maybe you should legislate against them also. Oh no wait, that would make being alive totally illegal.

Go wrap yourself up in cotton wool and write to your MP.

the baby comes first about todays news and im sory for that, but im also sorry that 2 dogs had to be put down because of the parents/grand parents, it was a staffy and a jack Russell that were put down, i am a owner of both, i was bought the jack Russell when i was 6, and staffys are awesome with kids depending on how there brought up, that about a law is stupid, when at the end of the day the owners of the dogs (the grandparents) will be to blame for this anyway, so whats your point ?

its totaly the owners fault, but a law about no babys near dogs, thats a bit of a stupid thing to even say imo, never in a million years going to happen, shaking my head just thinking of a law like that, its the owners/parents fault, you basicaly saying your not allowed to own a dog untill a certain age, silly.

/shakes head once more.

EDIT: and imagine how many dogs would have to be put down/re homed if a law came in, 100s of thousands, you should think before you make a thread
