So I had a SNES and my brother sold his soul to the devil..he had a Meagdrive.

Having both in the same house made it very easy for me to judge the better console.

• Better sound from the Sony DSP
• Mode7 scaling
• SuperFX chip (3D polygons and multiple sprite scaling)
• A better controller with 6 buttons not including start/select (the megadrive got a 6 button controller later on in its life)
• Better games? very possibly (starts a flame war)

The SNES won it for me.
 
I'd say SNES but they were both good. The main difference with multi-platform games from then to now is that, although there were plenty of games that were released on Megadrive and SNES, they were usually quite different from each other whereas now with the Xbox 360 and PS3, they are much more similar.
 
I owned both when I was younger and preferred the Megadrive growing up.
I think it's much closer now that I'm older but the Megadrive just edges it.
 
Mega Drive all the way, or my dad will come round and knock your dad out :mad:

Ha, I remember handing over £59.99 of pocket/birthday money for Sonic and Knuckles on launch day. The cardboard box was a bit crumpled too :(

Was an epic game and I had £60 worth of enjoyment out of it though :cool:
 
Well i was always more of a Sonic fan and i loved my Megadrive. But then i love my NES and SNES with epic games like Mario of course and my personal fav Zelda: Link to the past.

I think im going to have to sit this one out, i have no clear choice as i'd have to do it cold and calculated comparing the consoles in every sector based on some opinions and some facts so i couldn't win on a simple choice haha.

Here's one for you though. Wii or the Atari 2600..
 
Neck and neck.

Hows this possible, its clear the SNES is the best:p

Donkey kong Country (Silcon Graphics rendered)
Secret of mana (beautiful)
Starfox/wing (3D polygons from SUperFX chip)
Super mario world (best platform game ever?)
Yoshis island (multiple sprite scaling/rotation from SuperFX chip)
Super street fighter Turbo was better than the megadrives Championship version.
