I have not decided to upgrade to Vista yet as I have problems with a scanner driver; nothing for Vista yet. Anyway I have though of using XP on another machine and putting Vista on my machine. however; -

1. I is it really that muich better than XP
2. Is the Aero interface worth the exatr machine usage and cost?

tbh only reason i will get a copy of vista in the future is for gaming with dx10, no other reason really.

And I wouldnt get Vista until a DX10 game I actually wanted came out.

IMO it is not worth it YET. As with all software there is bugs, with Windows more bugs at the start then most software. I'm waiting for SP1, 2008 anyone?

was going to order tommorow...will be interesting if others could post their opinions...might make me save some cash for the moment:D

I would love to roll back 5/6yrs and see what people were saying about the upgrade to XP. I bet it was just as negative, but i bet the majority of you now would never consider using Win2000 or WinME.

I have upgraded and don't think there is a great deal of difference apart from the UI. I wouldn't have upgraded if i had to pay but i got it for free off MSDNAA

People keep saying this, but it isn't a valid comparison. 98 to XP was a huge leap forward in stability and reliability. But XP is already very stable and reliable, so Vista has little or no scope to improve in that regard, does it.

Windows 2000 was never a consumer OS so it didn't have the widespread support that XP has enjoyed, and will continue to enjoy for some years yet.

Whilst Vista was in Beta I was using it often. When it went RTM and I finally got the chance to legitimately try the final product I think I used it for 2 days before reverting back to XP. Since then I haven't touched it once.

As long as your not expecting a massive change like XP was to 98 and your not already security concious then I guess Vista would be a good buy. For me its a no brainer and I would rather spend my money elsewhere for the time being (about 2-3 years).

I've never been negative about a new OS, but I wait i until it becomes mainstream before I install it on my system. Once Vista has matured, I'll join you.

With regards Win2K, I loved it. The only reason I wouldn't use it today is the lack of support (& IE7, WMP11, etc).
And I think we can all agree that WinME was a bit of a mis-fire.
