What's the easiest way to do this please?

I have a number I like and would like to keep it, but want to go from my currently expired Orange £25 a month tarriff to Giff Gaff (or frankly anyone else that does at least 500MB internet, say 300 texts and 300 mins at MINIMUM for £10), just want to stop wasting the extra fifteen pounds I've been blowing on the monthly tariff as I have a sim free phone.

If you don't have a pac code that's in date you cant swap it over and its lost.

I lost my number coming from o2 contract to pay as you go because they give you 30 and i requested the transfer on the 28th day and because they apparently sent the request via paper rather than computer/email to the contract department (probably the guy Sat next to the guy i spoke to) in time i lost my number.

I went mad spoke to managers at both departments and there was nothing they can do

This is no problem, by expired I'm assuming you mean your contract's up so you're just rolling on a per month basis on the same deal. Phone up, say you're outta here and this is your 30 days notice, give me my PAC, Ask them to degrade the deal to PAYG - this is a failsafe as it will keep the number on Orange should the PAC go **** up. They will tell you this requires a SIM to do, that's fine, they will just mail you one.

In 30 days time your contract will expire with Orange, up to you now - you're contracted to give 30 days notice so you might as well use it but if you just want to move then phone up giffgaff and PAC the number over. Around day 25 if you don't immediately PAC it, use the PAC code to move the number with GiffGaff, as soon as the PAC completes Orange will mark the Contract you currently have as null and you're home free.

Much appreciated taking the time with that reply Myshra :-)

Thank you as that's exactly what I needed to know as I'm just rolling monthly at present.

Well.. this is gonna be a pain in the arse.

1) I arranged the contract.
2) It comes out of my account
3) I put it in my wife's name only because it was 'her' phone.

Just tried to cancel.. and they want to speak to her.. of course she is in the states for the past year and isn't coming back, so they won't cancel even though I took the contract out, so stupid.

This is with Orange? So you didn't hear it from me but they will ask her for her birthdate and password (which you will have forgotten) and thus the registered address I expect. After this they can say "I authorise Scougar to deal with the account" and you can keep going. As long as you have this information and a female friend....

Will likely do as above.. it was my first thought to recruit a lady fried (Apart from mega irritation, but I kinda knew they would be like this - being Orange).

Orange have been even worse than Three. Took them three months to sort out the overcharging on both mine and her contract when we first started. The continual re-enabling of orange safeguard on my old contract/handset (grr).

RARRRRRRRRRRR!!!!! (and breathe)

p.s. They used to be REALLY good when I was at uni so many moons ago, then they got bought out and it all changed :-(
p.p.s. I actually want to settle this bill, but if not, and I go to the states, they will end up losing out, because the bank account will be closed. Try to do the right thing *sigh*.

Why not just call and try to do it yourself? Just say you're Mrs Whoever. What are they going to do, refuse based on your voice? Say you've had a sex change, or whatever.

If you close your bank account before settling you'll get a black credit mark, do not do this - trust me. Phone companies are vindictive. They will refuse you Zefan, you can argue if you'd like but they can request official proof etc... a female friend has worked every time for me.

I am not really that worried, I'll be living in another country soon (with luck.), obviously I would prefer not to do this on moral grounds.

I'll go down the route of using a lady friend, but it's still ridiculous that I can't cancel even though I took the contract out myself for my wife.

[Whinge mode="On"]EDIT: Can't even login to the online 'account' either... keeps falling over randomly. I had this over a year ago with my other contract as well. Total ****. Honestly I simply can't recommend orange. They don't have good coverage for 3G that I find, don't support rural area's very well (when i was living rurally), and the operators simply don't bother keeping notes as they say they do, which causes no end of issues. Not to mention random black outs of service with no reports of problems or follow ups. GRR! [/Whinge mode="Off"]

Myshra> Thanks :-) Asked a colleague to help me out and got it cancelled. Daft that I had to go through these steps given that I arranged the contract and pay it. I would dread to think of the cost of her calling from another country to a mobile number whilst on hold.

Now have PAC code, so can swap to giff gaff PAYG before I leave the country.
