To my absolute horror while casually browsing OCUK, my PC quite litrally decided it didn't want to live anymore, kinda ironic considering I treat it so well!

SO... I was casually browsing the forums and the website for some insight into a new DVDROM when I started hearing constant clicking noises.

I peered closely into my side window to try and identify the noise, when all of a sudden it god louder and chunkier for about a second then CLIBANG.

Half of my rear 120mm fan just ripped itself into about 5 pieces, ricocheting all over the inside of my case. One part of it got caught in my CPU fan causing that to stop dead and Jam up...

Little bit of smoke from my trusty Intel sock fan. Switched the PC off immediatly, popped off the cover to remove half a fan and all the little remnants.
CPU fan smells a little like burnt silicon although it's working and I now need a new case fan... May buy a few actually, some nice red LED ones.

That's the last time I trust NZXT to make any kind of fan, and I have another 3 in my system!

I would email them the evidence (even if they are out of warranty!) as that is pretty serious mate!!!

well... they came with the case so i'm not particularly bothered about complaining, things happen.
I'll just buy some more :) I imagine I am quite lucky though, could have been worse!

Investing in a high quality PSU and fans is important IMO. I generally stick with well known brands when buying components for my PC.

First thing I would do is swap your remaining 3 fans with decent ones from Noctua, Nexus or any other reliable brands.

It'll be worth getting in contact with NZXT anyway - I seem to remember someone else had a similar issue with pre-installed case fans (though not quite as catastrophic), where it had clearly been handled roughly somewhere between the factory and the guy's front door - and a couple of the fans had hairline cracks. One broke/shattered, and he emailed NZXT who sent two new fans straight off and some courtesy stuff IIRC.

Worth a go. :D

I'd complain - you're lucky you were there when it let go, imagine if you'd left it on overnight and it had gone then? could've come down to a really big paperweight

At the end of the day it's only an email but it could reap some rewards :)

Shame Noctua are weak on airflow, but they are very good for noise.

Noctua fans come with an adapter that lets you control the fans RPM so you can have maximum airflow at the expense of some noise or low airflow for whisper quiet operation.

I've used other high quality fans as well and Noctua fans more or less matched them in terms of airflow.

I'm not sure he wants a replacement fan off NZXT ;-)
