Seriously though, in my day the teacher would regularly flip out and beat the crap out of me and my friends, never did me any harm

Although kicking the ***t out of a student in a corner is a bit OTT, i think teachers should still be able to whack hard-man chav around the head when they get out of line.

And this is coming from a student, im off to go and deface some property and spit at.... things, or something :D

Had a few interesting moments in my classroom and had to restrain a few pupils at times. Nothing would ever push me to do what he did though. You are paid to be a professional in charge of someone elses children and there is always an alternative.

It not a question of doing not doing you, or anyone else, harm. A teacher shouldn't be able to hit pupils (or pupils hit teachers, which was more prevalent in my school).

I was in primary school in the 90s in Ireland, and my teachers would punch the crap out of us if we caused problems, always a thump in the arm, but it'd be like a death blow, not just a clip. Can you imagine if that happened now? I'm all in favour of teachers using violence against students in certain situations. I think they should be equiped with batons, or even better, low voltage tasers.

Was it a Christian's Brothers school? Wouldn't be surprised if it was.

looks really fake to me watch carefully in the first punch the lad jumps before the punch is landed and the last round house kick doesnt even connect

I think that's an fantastic idea. Using violence towards children sends an excellent example for how they should behave as adults. I think you are being rather lenient in your attitude though. I think if teachers carried guns problem children could be dealt with far more swiftly and effeciently.

Pah, you're stuck in a trendy liberal construction - take a more traditional, behaviourist view...

You expect the children to 'model' behaviour, but you are ignoring the fact that the pupils do not think they are teachers. Did you model yourself on your teachers when you were in school?

A more effective approach would be to use a simple system of reward and punishment to educate pupils to do as teachers say...

For that to work there would have to be an agreed system in place; such as a warning shot at the first sign of trouble. Then, and only then, should the child repeatedly misbehave the teacher is free to use the firearm to deal with the situation. Problem solved indeed.

I didn't think I was a teacher, but I recognised them as an authority figure. As such, the methods they used as punishment would be seen as an acceptable way to treat children who misbehave and I don't think its particually healthy to grow up thinking that it is acceptable to be violent towards kids if they act up.
