Clenaing off old thermal paste

You need something lint free as a cloth
Clutch and brake cleaner, Xlene based solvents
WD40 works well, but there`s the argument of it leaving oil residue
acetone (pure works fine ) also found in nail polish remover but could leave residue from the perfumes put in it.
Most de-odorants work ( not antiperspirants ) But as above regards residue

Its up to you if youre bothered about the residue left, which will interfere slightly with heat transfer on re-application. posibly losing you 1/4 deg c

TIM cleaner or isopropyl alcohol. anything else leaves residue.

I dont actually use it, I was just telling him what "TIM" was. I have always used white spirit in the past and haven't had any problems. Not needed to clear any thermal paste off for years now though.

I've used meths in the past with no problems. I am now in the possession of a large bottle of Isopropyl Alcohol which bought from my local Chemist. It also cleans the LCD screens in my house quite well too. :D
