Hey Fox, are you a closet train spotter?

he's not really a closet, i thought everyone knew he liked trains? :s In my thread about the courtesy car he was asking adam about trains lol

Thought that was fairly common knowledge. I'm not a forum resident really, and I knew.

I thought it was common knowledge? About 10 years ago I started up a website whilst I was at school. It's no secret I've been interested in Railways for years. I stopped maintaining it in 2001. Which, co-incidently, is about the time I passed my driving test. Not everyone with such an interest is a 'spotter' in the same way not everyone who has an interest in trucks goes around writing down registration numbers ;)

I used to do a lot of railway photography before conceeding I was completely crap at it :p

Oh well, thought I'd caught you out on a little secret there. ;):D

Ta. :)

Although i'm screaming inside to take the ****, each to his own.

We all have our individual interests and quirks.

Whats your favourite train number, preferably two digit, you'll like the reason, I promise.... ;)

I like trains, what is there NOT to like about huge bits of engineering?

I like all engineering from boats to bridges, trains included.

I remember the first time I seen a proper train spotter. It wasn't long after I moved to England, I was on the train passing through Clapham Junction on my way to see my girlfriend. I was sitting at the window and the train stopped when I was flush with a guy standing with a camcorder and a notepad. I wasn't convinced at first, surely such a stereotype could not exist? He had the anorak, the bobble wool hat, the thermos flask and his own wee fold away chair.

I never understood it and I never will.

I'm also a big fan of trains, always love going though depots when travelling on long distance trains to see all the fright & service engines, or when they were laying track near my house, I was captivated lol.

I live near Westbury. If your into trains you will know that its quite a common passtrough for a lot of lines. Most spotters I ever saw was 8 on the platform at once. They litterally ran full sprint down the station when they realised a Diesel they were waiting for was pushing not pulling! And yes, anoraks, flasks and stools ahoy!

Saw a couple of em at Clapham the other day, made me chuckle. They were quite young as well, was expecting the stereotypical middle aged blokes with long beards :p
